Hauptstadtkoffer Luggage Set, Burgundy, set of 3

Rather disappointing on a number of counts - CONS:1. Like another commentor said I don't see the marvelous German engineering, similar but not better than other brands I see at Big box retailers.2. The middle suitcase has numerous scuff marks all over the back, like it had been used. They did a nice job of cleaning and fresh bagging, but obviously used somewhere at some point. Big suitcase has some very light scuffs too.3. The wheels are adequate, certainly no better than many other brands at Big box retailers that roll effortlessly.4. Color was not even CLOSE to pictured. This orange color on the website looks like a neat metallic burnt pumpkin color. The color I got was like a bright orange crayon - very disappointing. I'm almost afraid to try another color for fear of hoping for metallic and receiving bright yet flat.5. Measurements. Now this is most disappointing. U.S. Major airlines have been touting 22 x 14 x 9 for carry-ons for 2 years plus. I believe international flights have an even more stringent size.The measurements given in the description are off. In addition, all 3 pieces of luggage come with nice tags touting their qualifications, on these tags the measurements the manufacturer gives are 21.7 x 13.8 x 7.9. Ridiculous. Maybe the 7.9 is the closest, if you give it a squeeze. Unfortunately there is no way to compress the other sides the handles are on. The height is about 22.75 and the width at least 14.5 or more. Sad that none of these luggage manufacturers are willing to give accurate measurements INCLUDING wheels and handles. Being hard shell, you're not squeezing this baby down.PROS:1. For the price, you probably can't beat it at the Big box retailers. Probably gonna pay $210 minimum for a three piece,2. Free shipping is an amazing feature - why not give it a shot? you can return it for free if you find something you like better.3. Quality is good, not great, but a nice set for the price.

This is simply a wonderful set of luggage. Both my wife and I enjoy its unique appearance, as well as its structural durability. The luggage really seems to stand out in the airport...we traveled to Germany with it and it was excellent. We also really love its locking mechanism; it is really easy to work, yet provides a wonderful reassurance your stuff is locked up. The luggage easily glides around on the four rotating wheels on each piece. The adjustable handles are easy to use and solid. The shell of this luggage really is solid and sturdy.However, somehow a wheel broke off the smallest piece of luggage during airport handling. Although this was a bit annoying, the Hauptstadtkoffer Company was very easy to communicate with and promptly helped us by providing not only one, but four new wheels. And not only did they provide four new wheels for the smallest piece of luggage, but they also included four new wheels for the larger pieces of luggage! Now we have plenty of replacement wheels for our luggage set!My wife and I are very eager to continue to use this luggage for our future trips! The color choices for this luggage are superb and make it way more fun and easier to find in the baggage claims.

UPDATE!!After using these for the first time I have a few reasons for changing from 5 to 4 stars. Overall this product is still an outstanding buy, but there are a few things to note when making your purchase.1. Any color other than black scuffs EXTREMELY easily. Before we even got to the airport most of our pieces had some form of scuffing or scratching on them.2. They attract dirt and dust pretty easily for some reason...not a huge deal, but note worthy.Again, overall I think these are a great quality and would recommend them to anyone looking for an alternative to their very pricey competitors. The wheels work great and the hard case does it's job. I would definitely recommend purchasing the packing bags as well. They ensure everything you pack comes out newt an wrinkle free on the other end.These are great. Very high quality, especially considering the price. Compared to the Samsonite version, these are a must have.

After using these for a full year with a decent amount of travel I still love these. They are durable and easy to find on a carousel in the neon green. They do show wear - mostly black marks on the green from the airport luggage systems - nothing that affects the ability to use it. I love the zipper which allows me to expand the size. It saved my bacon recently allowing me to shift some heavier items from one suitcase to another to avoid an overweight fee. I would like additional interior pockets. to help keep small items like underwear and socks contained, but otherwise, these are fantastic! I even noted them on my Uber profile to help drivers find me.

We bought this for my brother who will be going abroad for 2 years. So far he loves them. They look sturdy yet lightweight, lots of storage space and the wheels work effortlessly even when totally packed, which is the reason we bought them on the first place.If I had to point out something that could improve,it would only be that the inside straps are a little on the... soft side? It doesn't really keep everything together, they could be stronger on my opinion, and it would totally come in handy that the keys to the lock would come included in case we forget the passcode, to avoid 20-30 min of constant guessing until it can be opened.They are definitely safe and not easy to break luggage , my brother got so frustrated about forgetting the lock code he started hammering down the lock, but it didn't budge lolWould totally buy them again, affordable, nice design and work properly! What else do we need?

I purchased a set of 3 Alex suitcases on 27th December and took the medium sized case on its first outing for a week in the canary islands.Prior to packing the case,I changed the combination from the default 000 and tested this 3 times without inserting the zippers into the lock.I had read that the locks can be a bit temperamental and didn`t want to be left with a case that I couldn`t access.The tests were fine and so I packed the case.To my dismay,when attempting to unpack the case upon arrival at the hotel,the combination lock would not open on the new combination or default setting.I spent an hour tinkering with this lock and eventually had to borrow a screwdriver from the hotel and break into the lock.Extremely frustrating and not a good start to a holiday ! I contacted the company this morning to explain my frustration and they have offered as "a gesture of goodwill" to send me a new lock to fit myself.Great,I am now expected to remove a faulty lock from beneath the inner case lining and fit a new one.I did not consider this a gesture of goodwill and asked them to send me what I have paid for, a new case with a lock that is reliable.Their response was that I bought the case via Amazon and should take matters up with them which I am about to do.This is all extremely frustrating as the cases are light,sturdy and look good.However,what is the point of an inbuilt lock which is unreliable? Will not purchase from this company again.

UPDATED AUGUST 2017: I used this case on a trip last year and the fixed handle on the side of the case broke off during transit. Can't be repaired or replaced and has left some sharp edges. Very disappointed, especially as the case had just gone out of the warranty period!ORIGINAL REVIEW:The case is a great size for medium length trips (anywhere between 5 to 12 days). There is an internal divider that allows you two compartments essentially (one in the lid and one in the base). The divider itself has a large mesh/net pocket for storing smaller items.I was particularly pleased with the locking mechanism on the case, which is simple and provides a bit of peace of mind for travelling and keeping things reasonable secure, without worrying about airport security using the bolt cutters to open a lock!My only criticism of the case is the material it is made of. From the photos, it looks to be a hard plastic case. In reality, the plastic is quite thin and flexible. This came as a surprise when I unpacked the case. However, I've continued to use the case and certainly not had any problems with the integrity of the shell itself. Will be interesting to see how it performs over a number of years and greater punishment on long-haul trips. But, I'm not too worried. The Haupstadtkffer brand is a good one and I'm sure the case is well-engineered. The advantage of the thinner plastic is that the case is incredibly light, giving you more weight capacity for the stuff that really matters!

Lovely looking suitcases. Very classy appearance. Arrived within 2 days of ordering. Very spacious, light weight, and they wheel very easily, even when full. They survived my first plane trip with only a few minor scuffs. The only thing I couldn't get to work out were the instruction on how to set up security code for the lock. I don't think it's very clearly translated from German into English. I have set up many of these before, but I just cannot get around his one. Maybe it's just me. However, I can recommend this luggage, it ticks all the boxes - the looks, capacity, light weight, easy to move and so far durability.

Bought the wife and kids a set for Christmas (wrapped them all separately to really add some tension and talk about the 'big gifts next to the tree'!)They used them earlier this month for a trip to the US from which they returned last week. No complaints! My wife is a fussy woman, and she loved them. Easy to move around, no zipper issues, TSA locks perfect for US, the interior features a handy divider, and the orange color made them unmissable on the conveyor belt! Sure, they pick up the odd scuff, but hey, they're not black! And the scuffs wipe off nice and easy...All in all, very happy! Thanks!
