Absolutely happy with the upgrade
I bought two of these to replace the original set of keys for my '05 Porsche 911, and can't be any happier with the change. Both of my keys had cracked and one occasionally separated to spill out its guts in the parking lot. I was skeptical but the quality of the new units is superb and feels much better in my hand, with a studier and more attractive matte key fob. It took me about 30-40 minutes to change the internal parts out to the new unit, but I was quicker on the second one. By far the hardest part is removing the transponder in the original key, which as others noted is glued in. My method was to use a box cutter to cut out the narrow sides of the transponder, then score and carefully wedge away the plastic on the longer sides of the transponder. At first I was very carefully and light on my cutting, but realized quickly that I needed to be more forceful to cut away the surrounding plastic walls (where the transponder sits inside). Needle nose pliers help with the removing the battery contacts too. I was happy to find a new Porsche decal with adhesive backing in the unit as well to place on the key. You can either cut the key that comes with the new unit or simply transplant the original key to the new fob, which is what I did and was very easy (just keep an eye not to lose the spring that holds it in). I also kept and used the old silicone casing around the circuit board because it had a little lip that held the circuit board in, which the new silicone casing did not. Overall, it's remarkable value in terms of quality for less than $20 and less than an hour of your time per key.

Fits PERFECTLY... saved me a bundle from not having to pay OEM prices
One of the buttons fell off of my key so I bought this replacement key case to replace the old front cover with the new one. The new cover FITS PERFECTLY over the old rear casing! I am very pleased. The buttons work very well. I really don't even need the rear portion of the case but I'll hold on to it just in case I need it in the future. Two thumbs up. Five stars.

Works perfectly!
My main button on my 997.2 key fell off and I had no idea where - probably didn't matter because if it falls off, it's likely broken. So I ordered this to replace it and it worked perfectly. I didn't have to transfer the internals, so I have no idea how easy that transponder would be to deal with but the top cover with the buttons fit perfectly onto the original key. This is a really good quality key case - looks identical to the original and is just as nice. Also, take note: the Porsche crest is not on the backside of the case, but is included inside the case and apparently has adhesive on the back so that it can be attached into the recessed area on the case. I'm saving all that incase I need it later.Need to repair your 99.2 key - don't think twice, just order this and save a tone of money compared to Porsche.

Really not an exact fit for my 997.1
My original key was cracked and the 2032 battery kept falling out. I have the 2 button key fob. Yes, it did take about a half hour to successfully change the components. I was forced to reuse the old silicone rubber holder for the electronics as the PC board was smaller than the fit of the new holder. Fortunately, the old one was intact and not damaged. I am deducting half a star for that lack of fitment. The major problem was that the battery contact points, after removal from the old fob, were loose and would not keep in place. I was forced to bend the contacts sufficiently to create more friction in order to hold the contacts in the replacement. Deduct 1 star. My rating 3 1/2 stars overall. Possibly other cars would be a better fit, but if you are working with a 997 key, anticipate some extra time and frustration to keep the parts installed. I am used to doing delicate neurosurgery and watch repair, so I had sufficient tools and loupes for better magnification to handle the job. It was disappointing that the contacts had to be modified so much in order to ensure proper battery contact. The new fob works with the car without problem though.

Very good solution to my 997 OEM key
So I have the common issue with my key where the lock/unlock button is falling out of place; I bought this a couple weeks ago and after watching a couple youtube videos I was able to completely swap out the shells. This key fob is made with solid plastic that feels better than the OEM key, very pleased with my purchase, and am buying another one so I can fix the other key as well!P.S. if you have trouble removing the transponder (magnet looking thing) here's what I did (and it worked pretty well): 1) get a small set of clock flathead screwdriver, pick one that fits between the transponder and the plastic wall, 2) use the flathead screwdriver as a chisel and hammer the backend of it with the handle of a larger/normal sized strewdriver, 3) a few hits into the "chisel" should cleanly remove the transponder from the plastic wall, and all you have to do is to superclue it onto the new case, then you're done!
