Great upgrade from my wheel-on trainer.
This was a worthwhile upgrade to my wheel-on trainer. Setup was real easy and installing my own cassette was simple. Make sure all the software is upgraded before using. It now works with the Zwift Click virtual shifter and I've had no problems with anything connecting. It's fairly quiet but if you watch TV or videos of some kind while riding you will have to turn the volume up. I've used this trainer with 5 different virtual cycling apps and they all seem to work fairly well.

Worth the investment.
Easy set up, seamless integration with virtual ride apps. Amazing! Not so expensive, great product!

Operates pretty smoothly
The setup was not difficult. It stands very stable, and connects very quickly via BT and Ant+. The power measuring is way accurate. The resistance level is plenty, and mimics the road pretty well. I have used it on the Zwift trial, and also with the low quality real videos on the included 1 year free subscription for myETraining. I like the them, I just wish they had them in 1080p.I like that I can read the output on my Garmin, even though it's on the monitor, since I do out of habit. Erg mode is stable, and will increase your average cadence, although I only use it sometimes. Overall, a very good setup, especially for $339 (bought in July). Just had to spring another $55 for an Elite Campy free hub. The trainer includes a free Shimano one, though.

everything at great value
this is the XR without cassette. well packaged and takes 5 mins to setup. virtual apps recognize the sensors immediately (laptop or iphone). cycling feel is very real for changes in elevation. comes with coupon card from elite which via their site provides 12 months free subscription of myETtaining and 1 month codes for Zwift, Rouvy, RGT and Bkool. very stable unit - see review by dcrainmaker. with the power and gradient specs 2300/25% it ranks with the best of tacx and wahoo at 2/3 price

Elite trainers are great...when they work
Oh boy what a ride with Elite trainers. I bought this trainer because I had another Elite trainer that had an issue with the electronic board and support is handled out of Italy. I didn't want to be down for a month during the winter without a ride so I bought the Direto. 3 rides in and the electronic board went out on this one too. I've had another trainer on the same circuit with no issues so it seems it was a problem with the Elite trainer. We replaced 3 electronic boards over the winter (each one failed after a single ride) and I got zero riding done.Because I messed around with their tech support for 2 months I missed my opportunity to get a refund from Amazon. Elite approved a warranty replacement, but returning it is proving to be another headache. They expect you to have kept the original box and they won't send another box or take a deposit until you return the broken trainer. So in the meantime I bought a different brand of trainer and it works great on the same circuit. I have now wasted $1,000 on Elite trainers that sit in my closet. Thank God I bought the other trainer, this has been a damn nightmare with Elite. Wish I could get my money back.

Good, but definitely not perfect.
This trainer has worked well for me in its basic functions (generating resistance and measuring power). It has reliably connected to Zwift and allowed me to work out. I do have 2 areas that cause some pain, though:1. ERG mode startup is painful most of the time. Even sometimes without ERG mode, the first few pedal strokes have insanely heavy resistance. I experience this on Zwift since that's what I use - not sure if other software does it as well. This should be fixable in firmware, so it's the most actionable thing I have.2. The stability is consistent, but the trainer is quite inflexible. As opposed to other (mostly much more expensive) trainers with some flex left/right, it causes a lot of saddle pain while riding. I actually came back to the reviews page originally to see if anyone else had a solution! Your seat *will* feel harder and more uncomfortable on this than on the road.

Slow Customer Service from Elite.
Circuit Board went out in the first month. Elite customer service eventually sent a replacement board under warranty, along with instructions on how to replace it (pretty simple, only a phillips head screwdriver required), but it took nearly a month of back-and-forth. While I appreciate that they did take care of me, they took their sweet time. We had a lot of bad weather that month, I really could have used a functioning trainer.
