this is not at all an odd question. this would actually be an awesome tool for a commercial kitchen if it were food-grade stainless steel, and much much cheaper than normal restaurant mixing equipment. I am also curious.

yes, it has a hex shaft that is 1/4 thick

Would this work to clean the guts out of a pumpkin before you carve it?

Well it might... But there is also a large potential for it to rip a pumpkin to shreds.. Or just make a horrible pulverized mess of the insides... Especially if you have a high speed drill.. I would suggest if you plan to go down that route that you pick a slightly smaller paint only mixer...
