Yes it sets on the line and works great.

Is this suitable for a 1/2 inch cable? Our zipline has a 1/2 inch cable but thr max cable size listed on the trolley says less than 12mm

I don't think so. The throat narrows and won't allow the 1/2" cable to go through. This is made the same width as the rollers so you can't use too big a cable.
