Q: What is the gelatin made out of?

From Manufacturer: The gelatin in Nordic Naturals products protects the fish oil from oxidative damage, yielding a fresh product over a long shelf life, as well as increasing compliance (and thus results). We source our gelatin from non-BSE approved countries only. For all soft gel products except for our Omega-3 in Fish Gelatin Soft Gels, our soft gels are made from FDA-approved bovine gelatin/glycerin USP (kosher) and purified water USP. In some products, the gelatin soft gels contain caramel color. In our fruit-flavored products, the gelatin soft gels contain natural fruit flavoring. For our Nordic Omega-3 Gummies™, Gummy Worms™, and Gummy Fish™, which contain microencapsulated fish oil, we use FDA-approved porcine gelatin.

Q: I received this without any refrigeration. How can I tell if it has oxidized?

This product doesn't need to be refrigerated. I keep mine on my kitchen counter and it is fine. My opthamologist sells this same product in his office and they do not keep it refrigerated either.

Bottle says 1125 mg EPA, 875 DHA, and 150mg other omega-3’s.

Nordic Naturals is not "certified" by the USDA as this generally applies to ready-to-eat foods and produce. Our products are, however, inspected by the FDA, and certified by GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) as well as by NSF. On every product Nordic Naturals produces, there is a Lot number which can be input into our Certificate of Analysis page on the Nordic Naturals website attesting that the dietary supplement has undergone specified testing and adheres to its product specifications and standards.

Recommended by my opthalmologist

My eye doctor recommended this brand of fish oil specifically. These are easy to swallow, slightly lemon flavored capsules. The vitamin content is such that he recommended a single capsule per day. My doc says one of the reasons he recommends this brand is that the capsule wall is actually thinner than the average fish oil capsules out there. Since the wall of the capsule is thinner, it dissolves more easily, and that allows better absorption, and that increases the effectiveness. So you get the full nutritional value of the fish oil each day. Don’t let the slight lemon flavor throw you. It isn’t like fish with lemon. There’s very little taste at all.

I've been on these for a very long time. No ill effects (an occasional lemon burp) lol but that's my only, I won't say complaint, gives you a nice surprise reminder when that happens.
