My Family Likes the Nutiva Organic Shortening!
I have been buying the Nutiva Organic Shortening, Original, 15 oz fr a few years now. This is a good choice for a healthier "Shorting" that suits some of our cooking needs, mostly for frying. It is pretty much flavorless, so it does not interfere too much with the flavors of what we are cooking. We use this product instead of any cooking oils. This product does NOT do well for greasing pans for baking breads, cookies or cakes! We are fairly happy with this product and will continue to use it, mostly instead of butter in a fry pan. UPDATE 05/04/2024: Apparently, this product has been discontinued??? It has not been available for quite a while on Amazon and got dropped from my Sub and Save. I guess we will just be using regular coconut oil now.

Best pie crust ever!
So happy to have found this. I have always blindly used crisco for Thanksgiving pies. After developing a thyroid problem, I cut out inorganic foods and all soy. Last year I made all butter crust, but it just wasn't quite as good. This year I did half butter, half nutiva and it was amazing! Tender, delicious, and flakey. (I used the stand mixer crust recipe from "Hummingbird High" and subbed this for half the butter). Will buy again!

If they sold this by the gallon, I would buy it!
Ingredients: *Organic Palm Fruit Oil, *Organic Unrefined Red Palm Oil, Organic Unrefined Virgin Coconut Oil *Fair Trade Certified by IMO 90% Fair for life ingredients This is by far, the best shortening I have found!! I LOVE it for my pie crusts! I weigh out (or measure) how much I am going to use, then put it in the freezer for 5-10 minutes BEFORE I put it in the recipe. My crusts come out so flaky!!! I also have been using it in cookies. The flavor of the crusts and cookies are great too. This doesn't overpower anything, very neutral, but seems to add just a hint of lusciousness. Somehow the mix of oils just works so well, its almost buttery. It IS the consistency of a soft butter. The palm oil is for creating flaky baked goods, the coconut oil provides the added health benefits of lauric acid. This shortening is vegan and contains no dairy, soy or canola! It is organic, non-GMO and Fair Trade certified. The golden color reveals the presence of antioxidant vitamins A & E naturally found in red palm oil. No hexane, dairy, soy or canola Non-hydrogenated (Zero Trans fats!) No cholesterol Non-BPA container

Very very versatile product.
I believe I first got this because I was going to make a keto Oreo cookie something and the recipe for the cream needed this item. Don't know what happened to that recipe but anywho the other day I wanted to make some keto cinnamon rolls but didn't have butter on hand, after running out. So I web searched some stuff to see if it was possible to sub butter with shortening and it seemed OK. Well, for the dough it was fine and had absolutely no off taste at all (or in anything really). Not for the cinnamon roll filling though. The shortening melted (of course), ran out and formed a big old oil swimming pool in the pan. So I took them out and placed them on a rack. They all had a big hole in the center but tasted great. Overall, nice product for your shortening needs. And would make a good hair and body oil too:)👍

PERFECT IN EVERY WAY
Highly recommended. I've been a Nativa customer for some time now. Love this product - use it in baking and as shortening or butter. Tastes great on popcorn. I believe it's healthy, although I'm not a medical professional by any means, just a customer using it in my cooking. Natural, cold pressed cocunut oil is the best.

pretty good product
I do BPC style coffee in the morning, I bought this to try out instead of the Nutiva butter flavored product which I've been using. My cottage gets quite warm, and this stuff stays solid (if soft) in the summer heat. Texture and color reminds me of the hyper-processed "Country Crock" margarine spread, without all the additives. Flavor: In coffee I can taste the difference, not in a bad way just something to be aware of. The product's taste is similar to margarine, but very mild, and with salt I'd be quite ok spreading it on toast (if I still could eat bread.) As a former baker, I'd chill this before cutting it into dry ingredients for pie crust, and I'd add butter for flavor - it doesn't have that 5% or whatever of water/whey like butter does, so it won't act like butter in your pie crusts or other baked goods. Will probably be ordering it again.

Great substitute for butter
I’m so happy to have found this product. I make a lot of allergy friendly desserts and use this in place of butter. I was using straight coconut oil for awhile but didn’t like greasy texture it left This blends in smoothly with my recipes and works well for the butter in buttercream. It also whips up well with sugar for cookies. This has a slightly buttery flavor and color but I do not get any coconut flavor even though it contains coconut. I’ve been very pleased with texture and flavor this produced in my dessert

Great for Baking
I recently developed some digestive issues and my doctor recommended I try AIP diet. I was overwhelmed with all of the restrictions. Finding this product has helped since I can bake again and know that I am not putting any dairy or gluten into my body. I tried it to make buttercream frosting once, but it was too strong of a flavor for that. I have used it in other bake goods and they turn out amazing. I wish that the container was recyclable. No where near my takes #5 plastics.

It doesn't taste quite as nice as coconut oil, but does cook the same way. I only use it for frying so far.

Not quite what I thought it was... not sure what to do with it to be honest. Could use it as a lip butter for the next 10 years perhaps?
