Choose what brings you peace and not power, money or fame
This is a classic that delivers a powerful message that we all have to do that we believe in and not what we are expected to do.Ferdinand, a bull is expected to fight, stick his horns around and headbutt, just like other bulls. But he chooses to sit quietly under a cork tree and smell flowers. And he can do that because he has an understanding parent, who lets him be the way he is.Again, one may want to assume that Ferdinand does not fight because he is not strong. In fact, an accidental encounter with a bumble bee shows Ferdinand's prowess in comparison to his peers who are actively showing off their power. That's when Ferdinand is picked up to fight in the biggest bull fight in Madrid. Is he going to succumb to pressure? Is he going to show off his power or simply chose the path that he like, regardless of whether he finds fame? This classic truly shows young minds that they have to pick up a path that brings them peace and not something that makes them famous or powerful. We have been reading this book for almost a year to my son since he was 3 years old. I am sure one day he will understand the bigger meaning in this book.Go for it and add to to your child's library.

A classic. Lovely black and white illustration.Simple story but strong message. I don't know how much of the message my daughter understands (at 2 and a half years), but, i know, some day she will, since she makes us read this book to her every other day.
