Alison Green Books The Scarecrows' Wedding

My 4-year-old son is currently reading this book as part of his school activities, so I decided to buy a copy for home use as well. He already loves Julia Donaldson’s books, and this one immediately caught his attention. Because he was familiar with the author’s style, he became invested in the story very quickly. One of the standout features is the rhyming text. The rhythm flows naturally, making it enjoyable to read aloud and easy for young children to follow. My son often joins in, predicts the next line, and asks to read it again, which has been great for encouraging his confidence and interest in reading. The story is well-paced and appropriate for his age, holding his attention without being too long or overwhelming. I also appreciate that, as an adult, I genuinely enjoy reading it too — the rhyme and storytelling don’t feel repetitive or dull, even after multiple reads. The book feels well-made and has held up nicely to regular use. While it’s clearly aimed at younger children, it still offers enough depth and charm to keep both parent and child engaged. Overall, this is a wonderful choice for preschool and early school-age children, especially those who enjoy rhyming stories or are already fans of Julia Donaldson. It works well for both independent reading practice and shared reading time.

The story is a bit different than others but we think it is quite a good approach for kids to understand the meaning of love, loyalty n of course wedding. Julia is just one wonderful writer
