Some things they didn't tell you
I’ve owned three previous low voltage electric blankets for different beds over time and I am sold on the technology. I won’t go into all of the details because you wouldn’t be here looking at them if you didn’t already know the pros and cons. I just want to add a few personal observations to what you already know. One is that for whatever reason there are some places that think these things should cost a fortune. The technology here isn’t rocket science, a low voltage blanket shouldn’t cost any more than a regular one. Oddly with this brand the tan color I chose was much less than any other color or brand, with the identical thing in some other colors costing almost three times as much. Shop carefully if color isn’t a major issue for you, it’s not for me – the blanket will always be hidden under a bedspread anyway.Compared to some others this one has a rotary control dial. I prefer that, it is simpler to use especially in the dark, there is a wider range of temperatures and less to go wrong. I would not feel the same way about rotary controls for regular electric blankets because some of them turn on and off with a loud clicking sound but this one is totally silent. I think the way it works is that it keeps a constant temperature rather than clicking on and off. And speaking of sounds, some have noted that they hear a high pitched sound with some blankets. I don’t think that is normal, I’ve never heard it from any low voltage blanket I’ve owned and I don’t hear it from this one.As far as being a fire hazard, the reality is that anything that uses electricity can become a fire hazard, it is total luck of the draw. They sell millions of these things and it is very rare that one has a problem and who knows, that could be due to a thousand different thing, including user abuse or misuse. This particular model has over 3000 customers reporting about it and literally a handful who may have encountered a defect or misused it. I had a car once that had an engine fire, I would never think of saying I’ll never own a Ford again because they can catch fire. In other words I wouldn’t worry about it.If you have never actually used a low voltage blanket you might think at first that it doesn’t get as hot as a regular electric blanket. That’s only partially true, most traditional electric blankets get hot, turn off, cool down and get hot again. A low voltage blanket raises the temperature under the blanket enough to warm you up and keep you warm at a constant temperature. Different technologies, same results. In terms of actual real life use, the first night which was very cold I started it at the 5 position and it was very toasty, in fact it was too warm for me. I ended up settling on the 2 position as my ideal sleeping temperature. It’s simply not true that low voltage blankets don’t get warm, I think if I turned it all the way up to 10 I could fry an egg on it.And one more thing for those who have never owned one – the difference between sleeping under a blanket with thick wires in it and a big electrical junction box at your feet, and the concern of electrical energy waves sinking into your body compared to not feeling any wires, not kicking a big heavy plug all night and knowing that only low voltage is being used, well the difference is like night and day. Note that on this blanket the part that plugs into the blanket is very small and it is located at the very edge where you could never feel it.

Would buy again!
Bought this one hoping for a modern version of the old-fashioned electric blankets that were lumpy, bulky and heavy. We really like this one! Very soft, cannot feel wires within the blanket (no lumpy wires or connections anywhere). Love the 10 hr auto shutoff; we turn it on when we think about it a couple hours before bedtime and then your bed is wonderfully cozy when you crawl in. I often turn my side off in the middle of the night, or at least way down, which surprises me because I like a really warm bed. Important note for us: we make the bed with a flat sheet under the blanket (sometimes flannel), then the blanket, and then another flat sheet on top to protect the blanket so that I will hardly ever have to wash it, hoping to make it last for years.

MINE LASTED 2 YEARS. PRETTY SATISFIED. WORKED FINE.
Mine lasted 2 years.Seems like when I was a kid they lasted longer, but compared to the others I've tried "recently" (in the last 5-10 years) this one was far superior. It's possible I had something to do with it conking out. I woke up the other day and the thing was twisted around like I couldn't believe. Bad dreams I guess.Anyway, I immediately bought another when it stopped working.

Decent warming blanket
I purchased the queen-sized model to replace a small desk heater which I had been using to warm my bedroom during the winter. I wanted something that provided more uniform coverage of warmth and would hopefully draw less electricity. This product definitely lives up to my expectations, as it keeps my entire body warm throughout the night; my feet are still somewhat cold, but that's probably due to bad circulation. :-) The micro-fleece is very soft, and as advertised the electrical wires that run through the blanket are incredibly thin which makes it much more malleable and comfortable to sleep on or under. The controller/dials are very dimly lit (they won't light up your room) yet are quite readable in the dark. I have yet to wash the blanket, but hopefully that won't cause any complications. So overall this product is great. However, below are some aspects of the blanket that caught me by surprise, as well as a blatant mistake regarding how much power it uses:1. For the queen and king-sized models, the "zones" mentioned in the product description are accomplished by the blanket having two completely independent/separate sets of wiring (left side vs. right side), requiring 2 separate power supplies (both provided), and thus 2 separate power outlets. The twin-sized model has only 1 dial and therefore requires only 1 electrical outlet; so if you live by yourself but have a queen-sized bed, you might want to consider getting the twin-sized version instead.2. Each dial has its own power supply (which is what converts the AC current from your wall outlet into DC current used by the blanket). Each power supply is about 6" long (or 8" if you include the ends where the wires come out), 3" wide, and 2" tall. It is an "in-line" power supply, not a "wall wart" (this should be obvious given its dimensions). Each power supply does emit a faint electrical buzzing noise; if you have sensitive hearing this might be a concern. The units are supposed to be placed under a bed so the noise should be significantly dampened as a result. That said, I do have sensitive hearing and can only barely hear the electrical noise (roughly 3 feet away from my ears). The cause of the noise is use of a cheap/inexpensive transformer, and probably combined with cheap/inexpensive ceramic capacitors (which can vibrate at certain harmonics).3. The product manual incorrectly states how much power the product uses. Quote: "The power consumed is approximately 1 watt (much less than a typical night light)". This is completely false; the product uses a lot more than 1W, and it has to!I used a Kill-a-Watt metre to see how much electricity is used. Each power supply draws between 76-82 watts (roughly 1.07 to 1.12 amps) at 120V. The temperature settings on the dial do have an effect on the power usage:* Lo setting -- 2-second intermittent power draw, i.e. draws ~79W every 2 seconds, otherwise draws zero* Hi setting -- constantly draws aforementioned amount of power* Off setting -- zero power usedSolely as a comparison, the amount of electricity drawn is slightly less than that of a standard desktop computer (not including monitor) when actively being used (e.g. not in standby or sleep mode). Also comparatively, my Vornado desk fan uses 340W in low-heat mode, 670W in high-heat mode, and 11W in fan mode -- so this blanket saves me quite a lot of money every month!Be sure to keep in mind the power usage numbers shown are for a single power supply, so if you're using both power supplies to heat both sides of the blanket, you're going to use twice the electricity.
