RadioShack HDMI to Component Converter Adapter

This HDMI to Component Converter does very well what the User's Guide claims it can do with digital video transported to it via HDMI. That is, it can properly handle digital video input of any of these four formats: 480p, 720p, 1080i, and 1080p. It converts the digital video signal into the three analog video components (Y, Pa, Pr) while retaining the format of the input signal. (IMPORTANT: It does NOT support format down conversion. One must realize, here, that the receiving display device [a TV perhaps], acquiring the signal via component video, must be able to process the format transmitted by the sending device [like a game console]).When component video was first developed, the best format it supported was 1080i. I have a 17 year old Panasonic TV with both HDMI and Component Video inputs. The HDMI ports support 1080p input but the Component Video ports do not. So, if I were to have a game console send a 1080p picture, through this HDMI to Component Converter, to my TV, it would fail to display because the TV can't handle it, not because there is a problem with the converter. If the game console doesn't support sending video in 1080i format, then the next best quality picture my TV can support is 720p.Recently, some devices, with component video inputs, now support handling 1080p format received via component video. But nearly all old TVs with component video input do not!A couple of years ago, I purchased a powered HDMI to Component Video Converter. If it receives a 1080p format via HDMI input, it then down converts the signal format to 1080i format and then sends it via the component video output. (I suspect the ability to down convert the format is handled by a circuit which requires power.) The downside of having this convenience is that it cost much more and requires yet another power connection.Here are the overall positives which support my 5 star rating. It is very simple and easy to install. it requires no power to work. It has a small footprint. If its capability matches what your setup can use it for, it'll do the job very well for you. It is inexpensive, less than half the price of all similar devices I found on Amazon. I'm very happy with mine.

I have Comcast HD TV service and upgraded my standard SD cable TV adapter box to a HD TV Adapter box with HDMI connector. My old 2009 HD (720P) Toshiba 15" kitchen TV has only composite and component inputs and no HDMI. Using this Radio Shack Converter was easy to install and worked right away. I just had to set the Comcast HD adapter box to 720P in its setup menu and plugged in the HDMI cable to it and then the component cables to the TV. Voila! Best of all, it requires no AC power. Viva Radio Shack!Update: After 6 years of using this adapter, my TV started to freeze up on me. That is, the selected channel would lock up and could only be fixed by moving up/down a channel on my remote and then moving back to it where it became unlocked. Put in another new Radio Shack adapter of same, and voila problems went away. So its not forever going to work:)

Has good video quality, works on my PS3 & PS Vita TV.

Its okay, works as advertised. My HDMI port got fried during a surge, so I used this instead. Carries signal well. Every now and then I get signal interruption to the TV via "Component" jack, so it works, just not as good as HDMI. However, I didn't have to trash my $3 thousand dollar tv.

No Signal cut No delay Continuous Solid Stream of Converted HDMI Signal . its premium deserves its Price !keep in mind 1080i Resolution Makes text very small hard to read but everything else Looks beautiful on the eyes beautiful image ! if 480i Resolution was available on PS4 it would have been paradise orolder Gen Consoles with 480i Resolution Perfection !

Good quality

I have a Philips LCD TV that’s over 10 yrs old. Picture and sound qualities are still excellent. Its single HDMI input no longer works so I bought this hoping to be able to use my ROKU via its RCA component. Didn’t work. The purple ROKU image showed up and then there was none. Had to return it to Amazon.

Works good but I only get 720p resolution with Apple TV using this. Keep that in mind. It will allow you to plug in an hdmi item however the resolution won’t be 1080p also it only works with my older Apple TV not the newer one. Over all it solved my problem and was glad I didn’t need something that needs to be powered like the other things I’ve tried. Quick and easy
