Absolutely Love This Receiver
The Onkyo TX‑NR7100 has completely transformed my home theater. The sound quality is rich, detailed, and powerful, and the 9.2‑channel setup gives movies and music a level of immersion I didn’t realize I was missing. Dirac Live right out of the box is a huge win — the room correction made an immediate, noticeable improvement. Setup was smooth, the interface is clean, and everything from streaming to switching inputs feels fast and reliable. It also plays perfectly with the rest of my system, and the THX certification really shows in how cinematic everything sounds. I absolutely love this receiver. It’s one of those upgrades that makes you wonder why you didn’t do it sooner.

Exceptional Home Theater Receiver with HDMI 2.1, Dirac Live & THX – Incredible Value
After researching extensively and using the TX‑NR7100 firsthand with a 5.1.4 Dolby Atmos setup, I’m thoroughly impressed by its blend of features, performance, and value. Setup & Interface The guided setup process is smooth and intuitive—Wi‑Fi setup, firmware updates, speaker configuration and HDMI mapping all work seamlessly. The on-screen menus are clean and accessible, though some deeper options may require a bit of navigation With six HDMI 2.1 inputs and two HDMI 2.1 outputs, this receiver supports 8K/60Hz and 4K/120Hz video formats, along with VRR, eARC, and ALLM. This makes it ideal for gaming consoles like PS5 and Xbox Series X—performance is solid with no reported signal dropouts on the primary HDMI ports. Audio & Sound Quality Every channel delivers up to ~100 W into 8 Ω, powering immersive content such as Dolby Atmos and DTS:X with clarity and presence. THX post-processing adds dimension and scale, especially with cinematic soundtracks. Dirac Live room correction provides musical staging, precise imaging, cleaner dialog, and deeper bass—transformative for untreated or irregular rooms. Streaming & Multi-Room Equipped with AirPlay 2, Chromecast, Bluetooth (including aptX), and Sonos/DTS Play-Fi integration, streaming is flexible and robust. Spotify, Tidal, Pandora, TuneIn, and more are all supported. It even functions as a Roon endpoint with no signal issues when streaming high-res audio over Ethernet. Build & Design The front panel features a large green display, a straightforward volume dial, and basic controls. While the remote is functional, it isn’t backlit. The control app is usable but somewhat basic, making desktop Dirac calibration a better option for fine-tuning. Pros: Cutting-edge HDMI 2.1 support for 8K/60Hz, 4K/120Hz, VRR & eARC THX Certified with immersive Atmos/DTS:X and IMAX Enhanced support Powerful and convincing Dirac Live room correction Versatile streaming ecosystem and smart assistant compatibility Excellent price-to-performance ratio compared to peers Cons: HDMI glitches possible; best addressed via firmware updates and proper setup Remote is not backlit; app UI is basic Not truly expandable to 11-channel systems; no independent sub outs or extra preamp channels Verdict: The Onkyo TX‑NR7100 strikes a remarkable balance between modern video support, superior immersive audio, and intuitive usability—all at a price point that undercuts many similarly spec’d competitors. If you want future‑proof HDMI features, strong gaming performance, Dirac‑based room tuning, and multi‑room streaming options, this AVR delivers beyond expectation. Highly recommended.

Incredible 9.2 Surround receiver at an unbeatable price.
I may return at a future date to give a more complete review, but others that are much more knowledgeable about audio equipment than I have already done so. For me, the Onkyo (Onkyo TX-NR7100 9.2-Channel 8K/4K Network A/V Receiver) replaced a much older (2001) TX DS787 5.1 100 W Surround receiver that listed new for around $1050. I probably didn't pay quite that much but certainly something near $900. It was great for its time, perhaps even advanced with THX, Dolby, and other listening modes. But it didn't have: HDMI inputs or outputs, any BlueTooth capability, no hard wired or WiFi connectivity or basically any operating or connection modes that most all modern receivers have. This turned into a big problem with modern LED/LCD/OLED TVs, Alexa and other now common devices. I bought my new Onkyo TX-NR7100 from Amazon for $625. Other retailers (e.g.Best Buy) advertise it for up to $1200, so Amazon's price is outstanding. Set up was far more complicated (for me) than any previous receiver that I ever owned, mostly because there were a very large number of back panel input and output jacks, to and from the TV, as well as speaker outputs for 9.2 surround. Suffice it to say that once everything was connected properly (I made a few mistakes along the way), I was completely thrilled. The On Screen Display, completely accessible either from the front panel or the remote was far superior to anything I had ever seen before. Literally every operating parameter is accessible to the user. And I used most of them. It is also completely WiFi ready so my 150 Gbit home Wifi network lets it connect wirelessly and stream music error free. BlueTooth is also another way to connect almost any device to it for audio and audio/video playback if you connect the digital connections to and from a modern TV. It also speaks and listens to Alexa, although I must confess that I haven't played around with that much yet. This is already much longer than I had intended, so let it suffice to say that the Onkyo TX-NR7100 is an absolutely incredible receiver for an incredible price. I'd give it 8 stars if I could. An outstanding product
First purchased a refurbished unit that turned out to have an intermittent problem so I returned it and ordered a new one of the same model. I'm very pleased with it even though it cost me an additional $200+. This is, for me, a high end amp that has more features than I will likely figure out how to use. The sound quality is great. I'm not a techy, per se so it was a little difficult to figure out how to get it up and running. I went to the manufacturer's website and found a user manual that helped a lot. The manual is 200 pages long, providing information for worldwide setup and contains more info than one needs but if one follows it carefully the setup will go fine.

Virtually no support!
We decided it was finally time to upgrade our older Denon AVR-1913. After some research we chose this Onkyo 7100. It sounds great, when it's working. Unfortunately the back right surround channel scratches, pops and then goes silent after what seems like a somewhat random period of time. Unfortunately, we bought it when we got a good sale price on Amazon, but had to go out of town just after it was delivered, so were unable to install it for a couple weeks, and after that it was a week before we noticed the speaker going out. By the time we realized the problem, it was too late to return it to Amazon. All that said, what we are really upset about is Onkyo's support. They have no live chat or phone support. NONE. A modern AVR is a complicated set up, and expensive, some form a live support is a MUST. We've contacted Onkyo via email, and they are responding, but it's a slow tedious task of them sending one more test they want done, and so far no offer to replace it. The first thing they wanted of course was for us to factory reset the entire system. The thing is, we tested everything we could think of before we even wrote them. Cutting and installing new wires, swapping back left and right speakers, swapping back left and right speaker wires. Everything came to the same conclusion, there is an issue with the back right channel. We are still waiting to hear back from them after the factory reset. Maybe they will replace it, frankly, we just want to return it, but in the end, we just want a working AVR. 1 star for having no live support, and slow unresponsive email support. Update: They asked for our Amazon receipt, which we provided, and then responded: "If your device is under warranty, please send a copy of the purchase receipt for verification. If you're unable to provide a copy of the purchase receipt or you are no longer covered under the warranty umbrella, you will be responsible for the cost of the repair as well as the shipping costs. " AND then... provided zero information on how to get service other than a list of shops we can send it to for repairs, shipping at our expense. It's possible they will reimburse return shipping and the repair, but they provide no details on how to set that up. I guess we are suppose to ask the repair shop?

Superb Sound and user friendly
We purchased this to replace our 15 year old Pioneer VSX-1020. After reading numerous positive reviews we chose this av receiver due to the features and a price point that wouldn’t break the bank. Our speaker system is vintage. We have the Cambridge Soundworks Surround II, KLH 32s for the floor front and a Polk 10 subwoofer. The connections were simple and sound setup with Dirac Live was simple and straightforward. We are amazed at how easy and user friendly the set is. The improvements over our old Pioneer, which we loved, are too numerous list. We enjoy how the unit automatically detects the audio format a film, TV show, and music is streamed. The remote control is simple and straightforward. To say we are pleased is an understatement. Our living room, where we use this unit, is about 30X30 in an old Victorian house. It sounds great.

FANTASTIC A/V RECEIVER.
I've only owned Pioneer Elite A/V recievers for the past 25 years. I wanted to update my last Elite A/V and this Onkyo was on sale for a price I couldn't resist, and I don't care that a new model is out. The reviews seemed like this woulld be a good fit for my needs. Set-up was a little confusing. I printed the 175 page manual and the diagrams for selecting speaker size placement is a bit confusing. However after figuring out which diagram was most similar to my speraker placement, using the microphone was a breeze. I also set up a Zone 2 which I could never figure out with the Pioneer. After my 15yr old speakers were calibrated, and unfortunately only 5.1 because I don't have room for more speakers, the sound was amazing. (Focal Chorus 826v front, Chorus CC800v center, Martin Logan Dynamo sub, Infinity ceiling surround speakers). The first thing I always watch to evaluate any new receiver, is the shootout after the bank robbery in the movie Heat. This reciever really put out great sound. Then I had to listen to some of my favorite songs from Boston, Rush, Led Zeppelin, Yes, VH, and Pink Floyd. All I can say is wow. This reciever can easily power my spekers, and it was so crisp. My kids had to come out of their rooms upstairs to tell me to turn down the volume. This is my first Onkyo reciever. I don't know why I never considered this brand before. I think I'll be loyal to Onkyo for the next 20+ years.

Best receiver I have owned
I had been eyeing this receiver for months before finally deciding to pull the trigger when it was offered at half the original price. I previously had an Onkyo TX-NR 809 which died and was replaced with a Denon AVR. This receiver blew both AVRs out of the water. Initial setup was very easy. HDMI inputs: • PS5 • PS4 • PS3 • 15 foot HDMI cable for laptop • eARC output to 65" TCL TV's eARC input Everything worked once I switched on the TV, powering on the AVR in the process. I have a 7.1 Infinity system with a Klipsch reference subwoofer and listening to the receiver drive these speakers was a joy to behold. The one issue I ran into was the Dirac Live configuration which kept failing, no matter how many times I tried or adjusted the sound levels. I have been at it for two days now and nothing I have tried has worked. It's a pity because I had heard so many good things about it. I will have to go the old-school route and use a sound level meter to adjust the individual speaker levels. I already adjusted the speaker distances so the level calibration should optimize the audio which already sounds fantastic and much closer to a home theater experience than I have ever had. Another issue that bedeviled me and which I had seen mentioned in other reviews was the dreaded "Initial Setup - See TV" message. Once the AVR turns on, the message appears on the AVR's display panel with no video output to the TV. Pressing back prompts you to set up Alexa and pressing back again restores video output and input selection. Not a deal breaker but having to press the back button twice whenever I turned on the system was a bit annoying. Unplugging the receiver from the power supply did not work. Installing a firmware update did not work either. Eventually, I reset the AVR from the onscreen menu: Settings > Miscellaneous > Reset. The reset process is very quick and you have to press the AVR's power button to restart it. Once done, I went through the initial setup steps without interrupting it and finally got to a screen thanking me for completing the initial setup and reminding me that I could do it again in the future. After that, the 'Initial Setup - See TV" no longer appeared. For all its power, the AVR was surprisingly light out of the box, compared to my previous TX-NR809 AVR but it makes sense though since that was a much older model. The remote is very light and easy to use but a major gripe was the placement of the mute button. It is placed directly under the arrow down button which has led to accidentally muting the receiver a few times. I was beginning to wonder if the AVR was broken when the speaker level calibration function was grayed out, before realizing that I had accidentally pressed mute as I was moving down to access the feature. Another minor annoyance is the placement of the input buttons with Cbl/Sat, Game and BD/DVD the first three followed by STRMBOX below. During the initial setup, I had used the first 3 HDMI inputs from the left for the consoles. When I turned on the PS3, I couldn't find the input and eventually found it when I pressed STRMBOX . Now I will have to examine the inputs more closely to determine their labels. They can always be renamed on the AVR but not the remote. I am quite sure I used the GAME input for the PS5 but I will have to make sure. This is my 5th AVR and by far the best. I am really excited to experience what it has to offer and am now thinking of getting height speakers to get the full Atmos experience. If you have a 5.1, 7.1 or more speaker system and are thinking about upgrading your receiver, look no further than this beast.
