Ok even though Im giving this 5 stars like the first commenter this stove does not have a front damper. Why? I have no idea and its just stupid for a well establish stove manufacturer to not offer one. I did install a flew damper and this does help to control the stove; however, any wood burning stove needs a way to be completely shut down and also a means to fully control it. I am going to design a bolt on damper for this stove, you can contact me via my website, do a search for: "Thrive Off Grid" We build very advanced wood burning technologies.Ok the good! This stove cranks the heat out, its simple, its well made and can be very efficient if it had the damper. I installed a temporary damper and it burned 10 hours and could have easily went another 3 or more if I didn't put more wood in it. As a manufacture I will tell you this is a bargain for a stove built to this caliber. I couldn't buy the materials and support the manufacturing cost and come near this cost.Ok here is the finished damper control i designed for this stove. It is a simple bolt on using two of the existing top vent holes. If you have this stove or planning to purchase one and are interested in getting the damper kit let me know.

Not for everyone!!!
First of all I have used 5 different wood stoves, in 5 different homes. I am very familiar with wood stoves and loved using them UNTIL now!If you do not pay close attention and if you over lap the top plates or if you pull them towards the front of the stove~yes I said front of the stove~ the insulation plates actually 'cover' the hole to the stove pipe, then your in big trouble......It's almost impossible to get a good fire going. It will smoke up the house!!!You will need smaller and shorter logs!If your buying your wood you will no doubt need to shorten and split those said logs because you will not be able to use them in this stove.....very well if at all!! There is a learning curve with this stove.***you must know***This stove has two insulation plates at the top. The draft goes to the front of the stove then up and back towards the the stove pipe then on up pipe. If however one of these plates gets moved maybe from not being careful when adding more wood or whatever then you mess up the whole draft!!! And that's will be bad. Those plates have a layer of fire retardant insulation and there is literally no room, if those plates get moved in the slightest, for the draft. And the whole house will smoke up if you don't reposition those plates perfectly. Big pain in the derrière. I gave two stars because this stove can work well but I don't recommend it for city folks and or novice wood burners for two reasons; 1. You'll need to split and or cut all your logs to fit and work in this stove. 2. You'll need a lot of experience with 'draft'. You could seriously do some smoke damage if your not careful with the plate placement. If you are somewhat savvy and follow all the instructions, if you split and cut your logs into smaller ones, then this could work well for you. I do hope this helps.

No damper, don't buy!
This is the only wood stove I've ever seen that has no damper. The holes on the door are the combustion air supply and there is no way to close them off, so the stove runs full bore all the time. I guess that's Vogelzang's way of making sure it burns clean! This is what I get for buying a new model stove with no previous reviews. I called the company and asked if the damper that they use on the identical-looking door of the TR008 could be purchased for use on the door of this stove, the VG150, and they said it would not fit but I presume it's more that they didn't design it to have that damper and they declined to even sell me the part. The first burn of the stove went well and it's too bad because it seems like a good little stove otherwise. The instructions that it came with say to pull the air adjustment knob forward for starting, but those were obviously written for a different stove. It's frustrating to watch a company make a mistake like this, and aggravating that they won't even correct it given the chance. Ultimately, this stove has no ability to have a prolonged burn so it's only good for a one shot fire at full output, or continual feeding at full output. They even told me that a flue damper was not allowed to be used on the stove. Oh well....

A Smoker!
It is a smoker when loading wood after and while starting. The Price is good but it lacks real fire bricks over the fire box and no damper is a real wood waste. I think the stove would work better if the door was upside down with the air supply at the bottom. Over the summer I plan to work inside the fire box to create a better air flow so it will not fill the house with smoke when the door is opened.
