Seagate Skyhawk AI 8TB Video Internal Hard Drive HDD – 3.5 Inch SATA 6Gb/s 256MB Cache for DVR NVR Security Camera System with in-house Rescue Services (ST8000VEZ01)

This is one of the best HDD drives I've used for my frigate surveillance system. Im using it with a Vantec enclosure via esata on my minicomputer running many ai object detection through frigate and home assistant. I get around 75 days for 8 POE cameras of storage before it fills up. No problems at all so far. 8TB is a great amount of space. I plan to get another and add it to my NAS. Read/write speeds are exceptional

So far it's working very well and delivering on its promises; I hope it continues to do so.

Ordered 6 in different batches. 1 doesn’t work. However, seller tells me that Amazon should inform me of the return process but Amazon tells me that the seller should. I can’t complain about those that work as they work great hence the 5 star review.

Excellent replacement for Lorex Fusion NVR. My 3 hardwire cameras that records in 4K now shows right over a month of continuous recording where as the 2TB it came with only recorded 1 week's worth of footage. From amazon, it was sealed in plain manufacturer brown box with plain seagate label with product info and barcodes, inside was the disc drive in an electronic mylar bag. It is genuine Seagate product that registered on website with 5 year warranty. Had a DOM: 05 July 2025, I ordered this end of October as backorder and got in mid November 2025. 8TB surveillance has excellent capacity, compatible with Lorex NVR that allows Max 8TB storage. Fast loading and playback performance. And was formatted through lorex NVR after installing with ease. The price was right around 200$ which was a decent price in my opinion for a big drive compared to other brands.

I just installed this in a new Eufy S4 Max NVR. It runs all the time, even when it should be idle, making a noise that's crazy, like some rock'n roll drummer gone mad doing a forever solo back in the 70s! It's a Sunday so I'll see if Seagate has an answer tomorrow. Before all that I had to format it in the NVR first, after a few minutes it reported done, but the drumming kept on going like it was still formatting so I thought the "done" message was false. In fact formatting was successful, it's the noise that's an unwelcome feature. I subsequently figured out the internal clatter was being amplified by the cupboard it was sitting on. Now even with a towel under it for padding I can still hear it 10' away sitting at my desk.

This hard drive offers a lot of bang for your buck. Installation was simple and straightforward, and the amount of storage you get for the price is excellent. It runs fast—I’ve had no issues with performance, even when scrubbing through large video files, which can be demanding. For the most part, it's been a smooth experience. I’ve found it to be reliable and relatively quiet in my setup. That said, I’ve seen some reviews mentioning noise or early failures, so I’m keeping an eye on it. So far, I haven’t experienced those issues myself. If you're looking for a spacious and speedy drive without breaking the bank, this is a solid choice. Just be aware there may be some variability in long-term reliability.

Replaced my 2 TB hard drive in my Eufy NVR system with six combo PTZ and fixed S4 max cameras. This 16 TB hard drive was very easy to replace fit right in with four little screws and then plugged in the data and power cable. Had the NVR all hooked up with the ethernets, lan and power and ready to go in about 15 minutes. The 16 TB drive went through its formatting in a couple of minutes and then was fully up and running recording all motion video from all six cameras, very seamless. It is a touch louder than the Western Digital 2 TB drive that came with the system, but not unacceptable. All-in-all a nice large drive made exactly for this NVR system with AI and 512 MB cache and 6Gb/s transfer rate, for a very good price. Highly recommend !!!

Making loudly sound like a broken breaks .. now after less than one year its broken and i have to figure out the warranty policy and duration.
