Some people are just late bloomers
"Apple Crush" is the second book in the "Peapod Farm" series, although you don't really have to have read the first book to enjoy it. It's about a tomboy-ish girl who starts at a new school in a new town with her step-sister AND ALSO has to explore the hormones that it seems everyone but her is experiencing. It's a great book about a very real topic with well fleshed out characters and a very well thought out and depicted setting/situation.

Inappropriate for kids, tweens *Beware*
If you are concerned about inappropriate ideas being given to your kids, or like them to have healthy world veiw, don't give them this book. As a Christian dad I preview books before I give them to my kids, and this one is being sent back.First problem , main character Jen is coming from a sad broken home where she lives with her mom and her moms boyfriend, far away from her dad that she only sees on the weekend ( and when she does, he's flirting with the waitress )She works at the farm next door where they are making a hayride for Halloween , with zombies and witches. The owners of the farm next door are 2 gay men that are seen with their arms around each other and hearts in air above them.Jens mother's boyfriend is weird and wants to be Jens " friend "Jen walks in on mother and boyfriend kissing on bedJens mother's boyfriend's daughter is obsessed with romanceJen is a depressed , lonely tomboy.Over all if your sheltering your kids from these broken world situations and want them to read positive stories, I would not give them this book.

Apple Crush, the second book in the Peapod Farm series, presents how Jen deals with new situations.
Apple Crush, by Lucy Knisley, is the second book in the Peapod Farm series, and Jen continues to try and be comfortable in her new surroundings. It’s Fall, time for school, and time to work at Halloween ride at the neighboring farm. But things continue to change. Andy, her stepsister, has become more interested in boys, especially The visiting boy next door. Add to that a new school and a ready-made bully, and Jen feels as if she has lost her bearings. A helpful librarian provides support for Jen, and she’s able to start to settle in.Jen’s growth and comfort are important aspects of Apple Crush. Jen’s experiences mirror those who have to get used to a new family, new surroundings, and new friends. This would be an excellent book for middle school or advanced grade school readers who may find themselves in a similar situation.Highly recommended: 4.5 stars.Note: I was getting “this guy is a creep” reactions to Walter. Has anyone else noticed this?

perfect for middle graders and the Fall season!
I have never listened to a graphic novel via audiobook & it was definitely a fun experience! There's a full cast & sound effects that make the story come to life. However, I'm glad I had a copy of the eBook to see the absolutely adorable art style of this one! This one is the perfect read for middle graders who are going to be transitioning into a life where their friends are starting to ~romantically~ be interested in others & love is everywhere. This book discusses the concept of a "boy and girl can't just be friends!!" & how it really is totally okay to be, well, just friends! This book also takes place during my favorite season, Fall! & I think this would make an excellent book to add to your not-so-scary Halloween TBR!
