Rx Vitamins Phos-Bind - Kidney Support Supplement Powder - Phosphate Binder for Cats & Dogs for Kidney Health - Supports Normal Kidney Cleanse and Essential Kidney Care - 200g

We have a 13? Year old terrier mix rescue who was recently diagnosed with Canine Kidney Disease. Our vet recommended buying a phosphatec binder, specifically mentioning this brand. It was expensive (for me at least) at $35. BUT it is a HUGE jar (think extra large jar of Noxema if you're old enough to remember that! Maybe lrg size jar Cerave body cream for a modern reference) & the scoop inside the jar is VERY TINY. The good news is that it goes a long, long way. I think I calculated this jar would last us at least 8 mos for a 17lb dog. The hardest part is calculating the correct amount to give your dog if you're not familiar with metric measurements or conversions. IRead through the questions se tion a number of reviews to be sure I understood it correctly then I marked a line on the scoop with a permanent marker for what to give him with each meal (daily amount ÷ 2 meals a day). He doesn't always eat all his food so there is some guesstimating when offering him some alternative food to get him to eat something, but I just sprinkle a small amount on, visually trying to match the coverage seen with his measured doses & so far so good. From what I understand the food needs to have a light coating of the powder on it when he's eating it. Giving after, or before, won't help. The food has to have the phosbind attached to it at the time of consumption. We also heat his meals, so we wait until after heating before applying the phosbind. I have to do more research on it, but I don't think the food can be heated or reheated once phosbind has been added. I checked out all the other brands on the market & this is the best deal I could find & seemed to be the best product to use, too. The others, billed as more natural, had their own issues, including some side effects I wasn't comfortable with & they were a lot more expensive, so I went with what my Vet recommended. AND IT'S WORKED! Our dogs phosphate numbers are down & holding steady the last few months since we started using. Since his numbers have lowered, he's regained a little bit of his energy & spunkiness. The Vet has us use it with ALL his food, even prescription kidney food (when our dog will eat it, that is. Sometimes he likes the canned CKD prescrption diet food, but not the dry mostly). In the long run, it IS a cost effective way to lower his phosphate levels & prolong his life. If you need a phosphate binder for your dog (or cat), I, in my nonprofessional opinion, reccomend this product. So far, it's worked for me. The cost was $35. for the lrg jar, purchased Oct/Nov 2022. Helped treat out cat with kidney failure, she's going on 3 years since her diagnosis so it clearly works!

I have been using this for quite a while now and I am currently on my fourth container. The vet is happy with it, the cat tolerates it without any issues, and that makes it easy for me to keep using it consistently. It does tend to clump when mixed into wet food, but adding a little water helps a lot and makes it much easier to blend evenly. Most importantly, my cat’s kidney profile is looking much better, which makes this feel well worth it.

I didn't see any improvement in my dog's phos numbers when using this product, which is the point of feeding it, but I did like that it was odorless and tasteless, so it was easy to mix into her wet food. Also good price for a good amount of product.

Our 15 year old beagle is in the final stage of kidney failure. In March 2019 his reading were off the charts: BUN: >140, Creatinine =5.5, Phosphorus =8.3. We have been giving sodium chloride for over a year (now 200ml 3 times a week). Vet prescribed a phos bind. I researched and found this phos bind for a reasonable price, ordered in April 2019 and now again in July 2019. Dont understand some of the negative reviews on the consistency and not mixing well; we mix it in with his slightly wet food and have no problems. The product seems to be fine. There seems to be confusion on how to measure the product for pet weight. Here are the calculations. This is for the LARGE 200g jar. scoop included with product is 1/2 teaspoon. Active ingredient per scoop (1/2 tsp) = 500mg. Give 100mg / 1kg daily. This means give 100mg of Phos-Bind for a 1kg pet. Convert pet weight from pounds to kg, example for 26lb Beagle: 1 pound = 0.4535 kilogram Pet Beagle is 26 * (.4535) = 11.79kg You can use google.com search to convert lb to kg: using 26 lb as example, type into search box: 26 lb in kg Determine daily amount of Phos-Bind for 11.79 kg pet. Give 100mg per 1kg daily Using Pet Beagle 11.79kg as example: 100mg * 11.79kg = 1,179mg Phos-Bind per day scoop is 500mg scoops per day = 1,179mg / 500mg = 2.358 scoops per day Pet Beagle who weighs 26 lbs gets a little under 2 1/2 scoops of Phos-Bind per day. CKD sucks. So I am told, Phos numbers are the most important factor in feline CKD sufferer's day to day feelings of illness, but obviously you should get a vet's opinion for that kind of advice. when the predictions for my cat's kidney function started to become more dire, my vet's advice in our situation was to use this (or epakitin) and it seems to have paid off. Of course there is no cure, but you can run towards the grave, or just mosey. The Phos numbers in veterinary tests responded as our vet predicted. I think we made the most of our time, and when quality of life started to fade, it turned fast. By that time I'd become ready for it. Practice feeling gratitude when your loved ones are there, especially when they're still feeling well. Don't waste your time together being sad: There's pretty of time for that later. Knowing that I did what I could makes it easier to look back on the good times, again with gratitude. I remember wondering whether one of these was going to outlast my cat, or vice versa. Fortunately we needed a second one before he died. The one container lasted a long time. I gave it to him mixed in with Hills k/d, and It doesn't seem like he ever minded the additive.

I have a cat in stage 3 kidney failure. I could put the tiniest bit in her food and she knows and won’t go near it. However, it’s recommended by my vet, so it must be a great help. Good luck and I hope your cat will eat it.

My elderly kitty with CKD needed to go onto a renal diet - and she wouldn't eat it consistently so the vet recommended Phos-Bind be used in her normal (non renal diet). Using Phos-Bind has helped me keep my kitty's phosphorous levels lower and I've been able to (very) slowly start adding in small portions of her renal diet. The amount of binder used is tiny so the container will last a long time, it's tasteless (I tried it) and easily mixes into wet food (for dry food I re-hydrate it and then put the Phos-Bind on it so it sticks and a little "gravy" can be created with a couple squished kibbles).

this product is wonderful for my dog's kidneys, an essential every day! So hard to find in Canada!

The scoop was not included as written here it will be for proper dosage. I don’t know how to measure a dose for my cat in mg.

This can cause severe constipation which if I had know I would not have given to my cat. Also the scoop is so big for a cat it’s hard to give an exact dose, I wish they had a better way to measure.
