Brand: RMC Publications PMP Exam Prep : Rapid Learning to Pass PMI's PMP Exam--on Your First Try

Rita's book had come highly recommended by a number of PM/PMP peers (and almost every other review I had seen). I had no hesitation ordering this book once I was approved to write the exam. Having successfully completed the exam around 7 hours ago :), I can honestly credit the material in this book for being the reason I passed. Of course, you need the PMBoK as your basis for learning PMI's best practices, but Rita's book is your basis for understanding PMI's best practices. The PMP Exam Prep book is aligned to PMI's material, and takes it another step further by helping you to understand how to approach the exam, what assumptions to make for the exam, exercises, practice questions and numerous tips and tricks along the way. I trust that a new edition will be released to match PMI's 5th Edition release of the PMBoK, so make sure you have the corresponding edition for the exam version you are writing to. I spent four months with this book and the PMBoK together. I have zero regrets about this purchase - money and time well spent!

I am not good at memorizing and I am not good at tests. I took about 7 months to prepare for the PMP exam, which I passed.My approach:1) I read through  Head First PMP . This gave me a good idea. It is easy to understand too.2) Then I read through Rita's book. This was my first reality check. Wow. This was going to be a lot tougher than I thought after going through this. Each chapter, it felt as if she was standing right behind me (she will call you out to wake you up!). The practice areas, the suggestions, and practice questions are spot on.3) I read both books as the layout generally matches. I went through both books for a total of 4 times each. I took lots of notes and also wrote down the questions I got wrong.4) I did  PMP Practice Makes Perfect: Over 1000 PMP Practice Questions and Answers  though I think Rita's question software would have been just as good.5) I also did a lot of online questions. Google Oliver Lehman's pmp questions. Do these plus at the bottom of the page he has a link to more questions. Do the ones where he mentions HARD. This was another reality check for me.Could I have passed this test with just Rita's book? I think you probably could but I would still suggest you do the online questions.One thing about Rita's book that is lacking is not enough Cost Management formula questions. They say you shouldn't worry. I thought I'd be ok, I memorized these formulas and I did these types of questions over and over in various situations but it wasn't enough. Get some more practice (head first was better than Rita's on cost mgmt). Also look into CoQ too. I think I saw another review that mentioned this point too.Study hard. Treat your preparation as a project. Take lots of notes. Keep taking practice exams. Cover the answers for the questions, see if your answers match the choices available. Study daily (I did 3 hours daily) and always review your notes daily.The test takes longer than you think too. I had 5 minutes left by the time I went through all the questions once but when I was practicing at home, I finished the test in 2.5 hrs. I thought I would have heaps of time to review. wow.When you take the test, think of Rita standing behind you giving you a good slap to keep you alert. She is awesome. Ho passato l'esame al primo tentativo studiando solo su questo! Chiaro, completo, semplice e anche piacevole da leggere, non mi stupisce che sia il libro numero 1 per la preparazione del PMP

Libro indispensable para quienes se están preparando para hacer la prueba del PMI.Rita ya no está más entre nosotros pero sigue siendo el gran "gurú" del PMP, sin duda alguna.Y lo mejor, la prueba está en inglés y estudiando ya en inglés nos acostumbramos con los nombres que vendrán en la prueba, ya que la diferencia de la traducción al castellano es "brutal".

I passed the PMP exam end of May after two months of preparation. Besides the online version of the PMBOK Guide (available for PMI members) I attended a prep class and used Rita's book for preparation. It quickly helped me to get some structure in the topics to learn. I did all the test exams at the end of each chapter before I actually started to work through the book. After each chapter I repeated the test with significant better results which was quite motivating. The memory games for the processes and the EVM helped a lot. The way the book is written is very good and the reommendations are really helpful. If you really follow the instructions consequently, you should be well prepared for the exam.
