A MUST for teaching 5TH GRADE Fractions/Decimals!
These are a must when teaching 5th grade fractions. Students can move discs as they learn to multiply and divide decimals. Excellent for English language learners but best practice for ALL learners!I used these in the classroom for 5 years. I am now retired and teaching online. With a document camera and video call, the students can use paper copies or purchase a set of their own. They work great with a place value chart and can be used throughout 5th grade as a hands-on resource when students need that scaffolding.I purchased enough for each student to have their own set and I containerized them. We used them for whole class instruction and for justifying their reasoning. After modeling and multiple days of use I placed the containers in a basket and the students could access the discs whenever they wanted. Now I have my own set for tutoring. I highly recommend for homeschool or for parents who need help doing homework with their children.

Great addition to the homeschool classroom.
These little foam discs are a great addition to our homeschool classroom. They add to the variety of manipulatives that help our little ones better understand place value. Alone, I think they have some limited benefit, but combined with other manipulatives, it was another very concrete means of understanding some challenging concepts. I have two upsets with them, first, I know they are not biodegradable. Hopefully we'll be able to pass them along to other families because they'll be in our environment for a LONG time. Second, they had a REALLY strong perfume smell that has not yet let up. It's been very irritating to my throat each time we use them. I probably need to just set them out in the sun for a day and let it air out.
