BD Drive for PS3 Slim model cech-3001 Only!

I couldn't believe it when my 2nd PS3 in 4 years stopping reading discs. I couldn't bring myself to send it to Sony and pay them $100 just to diagnose the problem. I went to YouTube and fold some instructional videos on replacing the Bluray drives so I decided to give it a try. I ordered this drive and it arrived in a very timely fashion. This product is very nice because it is complete and it doesn't require you to completely disassemble the Bluray drive which is the case with most of the cheaper options. The installation was a breeze(it only took about 20 minutes)and my PS3 has been working great for the last week. I will update the review if I have any future issues. I currently would recommend this drive to anyone who is having issues with their PS3 not reading discs.

This product was NOT what I ordered, it claims to be a KEM-450DAA but its not. It is actually a KEM-450AAA without any ribbions coming out from the rear of the drive like the KEM-450DAA. On top of that when I called the seller he denied that they gave me the wrong drive & that was the only drive they had & that they didn't have any other 1, but they actually had both 450DAA & 450AAA. This once was sold by "VideoGameAdvantage". This product should be in new condition so if you need a KEM-450AAA this is your product for 50 dollars instead of 80 like I payed. I didn't use the drive. Best of luck to the next buyer, & VGA your on my BS list!

Current PS3 blu-ray would play disc just would not eject (manually either). Ordered this based on select reviews for 160 GB replacement blu-ray drive stating plug and play. Ordered from Nektek and was at my house within 2 days. Went onto Nektek's site to view documentation on install, had to totally take apart PS3 and remove warranty sticker (simple). Unhooked current blu-ray and noticed that it was almost exactly like the new model, just had to unscrew the thin metal drive cover from current (broken) blu-ray and screw onto this new model. For the slim 160GB like mine (2011), this is truly a plug and play device. The Nextek site had directions for uninstalling a board from current blu-ray to install on this one but that info is for older (fat I believe) PS3's. For this slim 160GB model, there are 4 ribbon cables coming out of the drive (3 on one end that are easily plugged into the ps3 mainboard, and 1 (wider) ribbon cable that is short and comes out of the bottom.**This is the key for this unit. ** THIS wider ribbon cable must plug into the ps3 mainboard as well, underneath the blu-ray unit and it must be seated perfectly (up to the colored blue/black line) in the ps3 mainboard. Issue is that the ribbon is very short which doesn't give you much room to work with it and you need to get it seated while holding the blu-ray unit up slightly so you can have room to work. This was almost impossible for my larger hands, but with my wife's smaller, skinnier fingers she was able to seat it properly while I held the drive up slightly. Thought about using curved needlenose pliers covered with something soft but was worried about damaging the ribbon cable. Leddy in Nektek's customer service dept. was extremely helpful and swift in returning emails with questions.

I buyed this because my ps3 stop reading disc, It was really easy to install. I have to say that I Was really nervous because I did read some reviews with customer complaining about the recived the wrong version that they ordered, BUT I HAVE TO SAY THAT I RECEIVED THE SAME THAT I ORDERED!The only problem with this is... Can't read your bd movies backups. But is really a Good and a Smart Buy if you are having issues with your PS3!

install was okay, i watched lots of youtube vids and thought i had it down, it was really hard for my hands to plug in the ribbon under the drive...its louder then the original but cheaper then a new ps3(in my case)i thought it came with a tool but i didn't receive one.

Don't buy, it's a waste of money, I bought it to fix my ps3 and it lasted a little over 4 months before it messed up again

Great product.. broke my drive and this was a perfect plug and play cd drive. I like my ps3 and want to keep it. . This helped me do it at a very reasonable price

Blu ray drive died in my PS3. Found the particular one needed and ordered it. Item arrived quickly. Had a minor install complication which involved calling the comapany. They answered the phone quickly and were very helpful in resolving the issue. My PS3 works perfectly now. thanks VGA !
