You must sew these on, the adhesion is only to hold the patch on during sewing.After sewing they work just fine.

You can either iron on this patch or sew it. And the actual item arrived with no ironing instruction sheet. After looking at the product listing for guidance, I figured I'd start with the ironing and see how it went. I used them on the elbow's of my husbands wool sweater and ironed them on the hottest iron setting for about 30-40 seconds, let it cool, then did another 30-40 seconds. It seemed to have stuck very well. But then he wore the sweater for a few days and the patches started to peel up. So I went back and sewed them all around the edges to make sure they wouldn't peel any farther than they did. And that combination seems to be holding up quite well.The patch itself is nice and velvety and is true to the color seen here. So far it is quite sturdy, just a bit of a pain to attach to a garment.

My husband had a sweater that developed a hole in one elbow. He couldn’t find a similar replacement so he ordered another style which proved a poor fit for him. I don’t like throwing things away so I suggested we get patches for both elbows. I ironed them on and, as an extra precaution, I also sewed them around the edges as the directions suggested. Viola! Perfect. The patches look like they have always been there, and they even match the buttons beautifully. The sweater looks like new and has a professional touch!
