Comprehensive, good balance between concepts and keystrokes, and still easy to read.
I bought the first edition of this book close to 20 years ago. And worked as both a contract and full time "permanent" database sql server programmer for those 20 years. Been "retired" for the past 3 years, but considering getting back into the game, partly out of boredom. This book at 800 pages provides decent coverage of the basics of Microsoft stack for BI. You will not become an expert in any of the covered technologies by working through this book, that takes on the job experience working in multiple different buisness domain areas - financial, health care, legal, scientific research, etc.. But this book does prepare you to be a competent beginner BI team member in a professional work environment that is using the Microsoft BI stack. The are a few areas where this book does not help much:1:Requirements/analysis discovery work (although here are some very simple examples). That is a critical and perhaps primary skill for success of a BI team.2: you really should have strong foundation in relational DB concepts, since Dr. Codd's ideas are the foundation for almost all business DB work in pretty much every area - except perhaps social media.3: Actual sql object creations are done using interactive, mouse and keyboard SSMS. Creating database objects this way is the mark of a true amateur. Everything must be scripted, for repeatability, ease of drop and recreate during development, review by peers, etc. , etc.But the book is already 800+ pages (lots of illustrations account for some space) and you can't become a true pro from any book.5 stars from me!

Spectacular peel!
I purchased this peel and received it a few days ago. I've used it twice now and I'm shocked how effective it is! My skin looks great and tingles all day long. I'm sold!

Really liking the book so far.
I am liking the book so far as it appears to be well written and flows. I went to the McGrawhill site and did not see the downloads promised by the author under the 2016 edition. I saw downloads under the sql server 2012 edition and downloaded them (assuming they would be the same as what is provided for the sql server 2016 edition. Secondly the ISBN number on the back of the book is different from the one on the McGrawhill site. I had to resort to searching with the book title. Someone please correct this. I plan to update my rating once these are corrected.

Great reference/textbook for beginners.
Well organized sections and chapters, which makes learning about the subject much easier for absolute novice. I would definitely recommend.
