Amazing - but keep a level head!
A "superblender" was the one thing that my wife and I promised ourselves as a wedding present, and so far we've run up 70 cycles on our blendtec total blender. Like many people, I spent hours online comparing the blendtec to Vitamix, and it quickly becomes clear that there is really very little between them, but miles between either and whatever the next best brand is. Anyway, so far we've been very pleased with it, but a word of warning: there is an awful lot of hype about this blender, aided by the amusing "Will it Blend?" videos. I think this led me to believe it would make every single dish I ever wanted, clean the house and wash my car, all at the flick of the button. The truth is: it's a blender! Is it worth the money? If you can afford it, I would say yes. It's a fantastically powerful machine and will open up avenues of fruit and veg consumption not possible with other blenders. I bought the version with a big jug which really does make light work of pretty much any blending task, but also picked up a smaller jug on eBay, for a reason I will mention. So why 4 stars, not 5? 1) Firstly, the slight anti-climax, which is not the blender's fault but mine. I spent so much time hyping this up to myself that it was never going to totally live up to the expectation. 2) The lid, which is the reason I bought the smaller (older) jar. The 96oz jar is fantastic, but the new lids with larger hole and funny plastic "plug" are a pain to wash as you need to take the plug out and wash it separately each time. Do note that lids from both size jugs fit either, which is useful - we always use the old style lid. 3) To my astonishment and slight disappointment, we *have* actually managed to overload it once! It was in the smaller jug, making a very thick biscotti dough. This isn't a massive problem, and only occurred once and briefly, but just be aware - with very dense, elastic-y mixtures, it is possible. 4) Whilst it is largely very good, the accompanying recipe book has some odd ingredients. A few of the smoothies call for "silken tofu", and most of the ice creams call for some kind of "dairy creamer" or powdered milk - not ingredients I have knocking around! Final point - not so much a "con" as a "be aware", there is a bit of learning curve in terms of learning to use this blender. Some of the salesmen for both blendtec and vitamix make out you can throw in a bit of apple and orange and then a load of vegetables and what you'll get is a fruit smoothie with the benefits of "hidden veg". Not so! There is also a bit of a knack to knowing which fruits will work well together in terms of texture as well as flavour, and how to use ice (i.e. ice will quickly thicken a shake or smoothie). I recommend you start with the recipes in the accompanying recipe book and experiment steadily. If you do this, you'll be very happy from the start, as they are truly delicious (strawberry and kiwi is our favourite so far!). If you are over enthusiastic and just throw in whatever you think, you may find yourself a bit underwhelmed by the results. One last final point...! Don't want this to become a BT vs. VM debate because I honestly think both machines are brilliant and there's so little between them it's ridiculous. But regarding the issue of a tamper - or rather, the blendtec's lack of tamper - here is my comment so far: When making thick, pastey recipes like hummous or dough, there's no escaping the fact you have to stop regularly to scrape the sides towards the blade... HOWEVER! I don't think a cylindrical tamper could do this - it's nothing to do with "pushing food down onto the blade" which is NOT necessary as food will fall towards the blade (and in the larger size jug, will do so very quickly). It is simply that with a stiff sticky mixture and fast moving blade, clearly it will stick to the sides - whatever either company say, unless you invent a friction-free surface, that will happen. Jamming a cylindrical tamper down into the middle will do nothing to help that (imagine trying to effectively scrape the sides of a bowl with the end of a rolling pin!), you will need to use a spatula to scrape the sides just like any other container in the world. This sounds like a bit of a negative review - don't be fooled, I'm absolutely delighted with my blender and am still looking for every opportunity to use it. The jug is great to use and the pre-programmed cycles are easy to use (if you don't want to use them, there's always the pulse button or the manual speed setting buttons - I don't know how people could want it to be any more simple). And after wiping it down a few times already, I honestly do think that buttons are a better idea than dials which inevitably attract gunk. But just be realistic about what this is going to do for you!

Powerhouse and great alternative to Vitamix
I am so happy with this Blentec blenter. My wife and I had been looking for a replacement (and improvement) for my Oyster blender (6 years old) for quick sometimes and were saving for a Vitamix pro 750 until one of my friends showed me the 'will it blend' videos. The guy was using a Blentec blender and it was quite impressive. Amazon had this Blentec TB-621-20 on promo during Boxing Day 2016 and that' s all we needed to make this investment. Pros: - powerful engine - blends everything (so far) - awesome built quality - the jar design (square) makes it easy to pour and clean - the preset modes handle your desired blend mode (try the soup mode, you will be amazed) Cons - a bit noisy, especially with frozen fruits or veggs - the absence of recipe book (my friend got one with his Vitamix and I have been using his recipes) - would have been nice if it came with a mixing temper (for a machine worth over $700 it should be included) We could not be happier, this blender is a real powerhouse!! So far we have used it 30+ times making morning shakes, smoothies, frozen drinks, and soups. No matter what we throw at it, the results are always spectacular. Kale (comes out super smooth), raw carrots (blend in seconds), frozen blackberries (can hardly feel the seeds), ...

Perfect for weight watchers!
I waited a few weeks before entering this review to get a better perpective, and this blender does not disappoint! It is solid, simple, and does exactly what it claims to do. Cleaning could not be easier (use hot water to rinse out because of the sugars in fruits and my favorite sweetener, agave.) Every few uses put a couple drops of dish soap in with a bit of hot water and run the blender for a few seconds. This blender fits under my cabinets even when in use. The programs are good, but I find myself using the manual speeds just as much. *Weight Watchers* -- If you are in Weight Watchers, or are considering it, this is a great tool. I use this every day on the program, and sometimes twice a day. On the Points Plus program, fruit and veggies are not counted against you, so just toss in whatever you have, fresh or frozen, then some spinach, then some of your favorite fiber powder or protein powder, sweeten with splenda or my choice of agave, and finally add crushed ice on top. This gives you a large smoothie with between 0-4 points depending on how you sweeten it. Make sure to read the instructions, as this will give you great hints such as placing the liquids on the bottom, fruit/veggies in the middle, and ice chips on top. This blender goes through anything! Peel, core, seeds, ice, whatever. Don't bother doing too much prep, one of the excuses I used to have was that eating healthy foods took too much time. Just toss it in and turn it on then rinse it out. Hint: Buy larger, stronger straws. Sucking down a delicious whole foods smoothie is more fun with a proper straw. I use a Starbucks reusable cold cup with it's own straw. This (and any other high power unit) is quite loud. But most cycles last less that 40 seconds, and some are done in much less than that. To make great (and much cheaper) Frappacino drinks, buy some xanthum gum which prevents separation. Use Starbucks Via (iced variety), add cocoa powder and sweeten as desired. Add ice chips, skim milk, and xanthum gum. For weight watchers, the Via contains a bit of sugar, so beware of adding too much additional sweet stuff. Other stuff you can make include: healthy dips, soups, salsa, hummus and so much more. Yes, this blender is expensive, but it is of such higher quality that it is well worth it. Also, the money you spend on this is nothing compared to the expense of health related expenses of being like me: overweight, out of shape, and not eating fruits/veggies. I hope you enjoy this as much as I enjoy mine. UPDATE 21 MONTHS AFTER PURCHASE: Still going strong after 21 months! The counter reads 601 smoothies/sauces/soups and much more. This should give you an idea of how much we use ours... nearly every day. We have 'sneaked in' tons of veggie of all colors and types and our kids love it! Then we tell them there was spinach or kale in it and they shrug, and say 'well, I guess we like kale now.' As long as it's blended in this awesome blender anyway...

... had a Blendtec for about 12 yrs and I love it! Bought it from Costco
I have had a Blendtec for about 12 yrs and I love it! Bought it from Costco. I haven't had any problems with it. I did however have a problem with the jar leaking so I called Blendtec and even though it was out of warranty she sent me a new one! That's great customer service! I read where someone said the top popped off. I don't think she had it on right mine has never popped off. She also said there was only a vent hole, the jars now have a bigger hole on top that you can easily add more ingredients through or a tamper if needed. Sometimes if I add too much ice I will need to add more liquid and then push the ice down and blend again. That is the only time I need a tamper. You can blend anything with this blender! I read that someone could still feel the texture of the seeds in a fruit she used, if this happens just blend longer and everything will be smooth. I love being able to have a smoothie in just a matter of minutes! I use spinach and kale and it all blends smoothly no pieces of leafy veg left. Just cut bigger fruit into a couple of pieces and throw it all in. My grandkids love my smoothies so it's nice that I can make one for them in just about 2 or 3 min so they can have one before school and they don't mind at all that there is spinach in it! You can add spinach to the ice cream too! I also love that I can grind wheat or any grain no need for a wheat grinder, and it will grind sugar to make powdered sugar in just a minute if I find that I am out and need some. I have a jar for dry blending and a jar for liquid blending since blending dry does scratch the inside of the jar. It is also very easy to clean. If you do happen to forget to wash it out right away just let it soak with hot water for a bit and it will clean easily. There are just so many things you can do with this blender. I just bought a new one just because the treasure truck had it at an amazing price and it is the newer model so why not! You cannot go wrong with this blender! I highly recommend it!
