Basic Types of Pastoral Care & Counseling: Resources for the Ministry of Healing & Growth, Third Edition

Classic Textbook
This is the revised third edition of Clinebell’s Basic Types of Pastoral Care & Counseling since it was first published in 1966. For a book to go through three revisions in fifty years and still be in wide use is a testament to it’s worth. Basic Types of Pastoral Care & Counseling has become the standard – the go to textbook in the field. It is a must read for anyone in the field.

No text search in Kindle version- not indexed yet!
I am enjoying the content very much. My issue is with Kindle edition of the book. Apparently, you can't do text searches because the book isn't indexed yet. EXTREMELY ANNOYING because in the Kindle edition there are no pages (naturally) for the index terms in the back of the hard copy book. The Kindle edition just lists the terms with an explanation that we're supposed to use the text search feature in the Kindle version, which doesn't work!!! Does anyone else with the Kindle edition have this same issue?

Dry. Limited thinking.
Dry. Conservative. Limited thinking. If it were not an academic requirement, I would not have ordered simply because there is no HOPE portrayed in this book. I do not believe we are inherently evil but this book seems to go in that direction. Not a favorite. Not a fan.

Good Book on Pastoral Care
Enjoyed the book, and found it helpful in my pastoral care class. The only down side to my whole experience with it was the shipping delays that caused me to have to play catch up with my assigned reading.

If you treat it as a manual it's great. If you want facts backed up by stories it's lacking in that dimension.

For all Pastors
This book is a must have for all pastors. If you feel deficient in the capabilities of pastoral counseling, this book is a tremendous resource to help strengthen your awareness to counseling practices and concepts. I would highly recommend that every pastor own this book and use it as a continual tool to sharpen their counseling skills

Horrible revision by a former student of Clinebell with a left-wing, feminist agenda. Not worth the paper its written on.
