Worked exactly as expected. Very sturdy. I wouldn't have put a niche in our shower if we had to custom make it because it's asking for leaks down the road. This is an excellent water proof option and after convincing my tile guy, who hates working with new things, he said it stuck fantastic and would definitely use it again.

Just remodeled my bathroom & installed this in my shower !! If you plan on having a niche in your shower for soap, shampoo bottles etc. Then this is the product to use. They come in many shapes sizes. They are super easy to install and are waterproof and you just tile right to the material that’s it’s made out of. I was going to make a niche with cement board but I became skeptical that water could sit on the shelves and possibly leak thru the grouting over time and get thru to the cement board. With these niche’s that can’t possibly happen there water proof. And it looks great in the shower after it’s tiled.

Like other reviews, I agree this product is WAY overpriced as I am sure it only cost's the manufacturer a couple dollars to make it. So that is an immediate 1 star deduction for being greedy. The product itself seems solid enough to substitute for the old fashioned stud frame and provides a great water proof piece of mind. The edge/lip is fairly thick as other reviews have complained about. But this is understandably due to the solid construction and if you are installing it per the instructions, it should end up darn near flush with your cement board (which is what you want). I roughed mine up a bit with 180 sand paper to ensure my tile will stick well and taped the seam against the cement board with cement board tape and coated the seam and boards with RedGuard and I feel confident there will be no leak issues. My only complaints about this product are that they know the purpose of this product is to stick tile to it and should manufacture it with a rougher surface for them to stick to and the price is borderline criminal. With the estimated 90% profit margin on this, I am shocked more plastic mold companies haven’t jumped into this market for a piece of that pie.

When I remodeled my shower, I wanted a recessed shelf that was tall enough for shampoo bottles but also had a shelf that I could store soap dishes. This shelf met both those needs. My only wish is that the narrow shelf for the soap dishes was just a bit taller. That said, it was a great add to the shower.

Only 4 stars because it was a pain to tile. The niche is heavy plastic and very well made. Very solid and all sides have a slope so it can be mounted in any direction. No worries on having water leak through to the sub straight. Fits between the 16" OC studs no problem. Definitely a time saver over building a custom niche for installation. However if I had to do it over I think I would just build one. A single opening with just one slope for the water to run off the bottom shelf. I don't think the time saved in the easy mounting made up for the (somewhat high) price or the added time needed for all the custom cuts needed for the tile to fit. I would have sized a single opening (rather than have the added small niche) to better fit the tile I used. I used 12"X12" tile in our shower and had to make 22 individual tiles (all custom sized cuts) to cover the niche. The small niche only doubled the work (cutting 11 additional tile pieces) for not much extra space. I would recommend two of the large single niches over this double one. The work and time wasn't worth it for such a small extra shelf. I read in other reviews it wasn't fun to tile, but I can't stress that enough as you consider your options.
