Fairly cheap, so why not? Buy this and use the right tool for the job. Not only will it make connecting/disconnecting your cables much easier, but it'll also help prevent any mishaps where you may damage a connector. Sure, you can get away with not using this tool, but for the cost, why not??

This is the perfect tool to snap the shimano wires into the Di2 components and to remove them without damaging the wire. Works great. You don't absolutely need it, but if you don't want to tug the inner wires apart this is a better way to insert and remove the plugs. Buy one and throw it into your toolbox. BTW, this tool comes with some of the Dura Ace components, so you might end up with an extra one.

This product is utterly crucial for use when working on DI2. Failure to use it will wear out your very expensive components. For example, the Alphine DI2 11-Speed hub has exactly one weak spot -- the E-Tube socket. There are quite a few reviews out there complaining about E-Tube sockets breaking, but Shimano warns very clearly that failure to use the Plug Tool will do exactly that. Remember, wires can be replaced, but your ETube connectors cannot. Use the right tool for the job

Unfortunately I bought the wrong (the old) E-tube connector tool and I only realized it after I opened the packaging. I would have needed the newer EW-300 series tool. Anyway, the price was super low

Simple tool, makes it easy to plug in your "fragile" DI2 electric wires. Tool works well, but the design just feels a bit weird how you place the cable in the top end and push it in but it doesn't super securely hold the DI2 cable. But it works. I suggest carrying one in your saddle bag, it makes any potential repairs on the side of the road a little easier, and helps protect the fragile cables.

Before running Di2 E-tubes through the frame you really should connect everything in order to test that all the parts/wires work as expected. With this tool you can make sure Di2 E-tubes are fully inserted and connected properly. Just as importantly, after you test your setup you have to disconnect everything in order to install the internal wiring and this tool is the easy way to disconnect E-tubes without damaging them. One of these may come with your Di2 group but for what it costs it sure doesn't hurt to have a backup around.

I ordered this only to find out a few days later that my bike came with one! I just had to look into the box. Anyways, it works as it should, and it's not a bad idea to have a spare to tag along on longer rides in case something happens on the road.

They come supplied with your brake levers . I like to keep one at work and one at home . I use my bike for commuting so this solution makes sens . If your bike deserves Di2, you deserve the right tools . Peace of mind that you are not breaking your connectors or your components .
