Pretty nice serum without much appreciation
Okay, so snail and cica (centella asiatica extracts) is not a noble concept anymore yet they are still pretty representative ingredients in Korean beauty products. After the K-beauty rave, MANY I mean literally many companies used them as calming & repairing ingredients. This is a very nice product especially for hydration and sensitiveness relief so here is what I think.Disclaimer: I am a Vine Voice but I PAID FOR THIS PRODUCT. SO I DIDN'T GET THE ITEM FOR FREE TO REVIEW.Ingredients:So as they mentioned, 96% of the product formula is occupied by the snail mucus filtrate. Then it followed by 1,2 hexanediol which is common solvent with preservative property. Other than that, it's all additional humectants, texture enhancers and extracts. To be honest, this product doesn't contain so much Cica ingredients (simple extract or TECA). The only thing that I don't like about the Neogen products is that this just try to squeeze in so many extracts for no reason. The amount of these ingredients are practically negligible to benefit from "phytochemicals". This product contains propyl gallate, assumably as fragrance and preservative. It's nothing good but still, it's only the 2nd last ingredient, so I won't worry so much. But be aware of it if it concerns you.Texture:It's slimy and viscous essence, which is absorbed quickly after application. I didn't notice much problem with makeup after the application. It does leave light and nice hydration layer as well.Effectiveness:First of all, I don't have very sensitive skin and my skin tolerate products any product. So I am not the right person to ask about the irritation. Anyhow as expected, I didn't have any irritation. Even from the ingredient list, I didn't see many irritants except the propyl gallate. However, it's not uncommon for people to have allergic reaction against snail mucin, so please test on the less visible area before application as other people wrote. It hydrates skin instantaneously and makes fine lines and pores less visible. It doesn't make skin very watery-glossy though.Buy this if you need: a daily calming and hydrating serum. I think it works wonders.Don't if your: main purpose of skincare routine is repairing / calming due to the acne or damage. In that case, I would go for other products with higher centella asiatica concentration (especially for TECAs.)

Heavily Fragranced, Otherwise Hydrating, Mild Cream
I ordered the Neogen Dermalogy Cica Repair Snail Essence and received the 1.7oz jar ($28 as of this writing) of their Cica Repair Snail Cream instead. So I will review the cream.Snail Mucin (Snail Secretion Filtrate 88%) is the first ingredient in this cream. So, snail mucin. What the heck is that? Brace yourself. Snail mucin is the slime snails secrete - eww, right. No, really. Before you freak out, wait, and read on.Snail mucin is very popular in K-beauty. Korean brands, like Neogen, tout SM for its miraculous repair and hydration properties. Snail mucin has a complex mixture of proteoglycans, glycosaminoglycans, glycoprotein enzymes, hyaluronic acid, copper peptides, antimicrobial peptides, and trace elements, including copper, zinc, and iron.Ok. Sounds great. But how is the slime harvested? As snail mucin's popularity has surged, farmers have increased their output to accommodate the skincare market demand. But there are still ethics at play about how snails are treated and safety for the consumer. Commonly, mucin is harvested from the Achatina fulica or the giant African snail. Only edible snails are used in skincare products. The snails are placed over a mesh in a dark and quiet room, left alone to roam the net, leaving mucin in their wake. No external method is applied to the snails or the mesh to force mucin production throughout the process. It is important to note that while snail slime is all-natural, this does not mean it will be suitable for everyone. I do know people who can't tolerate the use and who do break out. So patch test anything with snail mucin on your neck or back to check for adverse reactions first. Before I forget, snail mucin has a very distinct texture—something between a light gel, a slime, and a liquid. Most products formulated with it will have the odd composition indicative of said texture, dispensing in a slippery, runny water gel.For user reference, I have mature (over 40), sensitive, product-reactive, fair, combination, acne-prone, congestion-prone skin. I use moisturizer and SPF regularly, and neither contributes to my acne. And I do not use my acne-related actives/exfoliants every single time I wash my face. So if my complexion doesn't like something, I'll know almost immediately through sudden breakouts, rashes, rosacea, and blisters.

Broke me out with fungal acne.
I have heard many good things about snail mucin and maybe it might just be the over-hype of the trend but it did nothing for my skin. All it did for me was break me out in fungal acne that took me so long to get my skin back to where it was. I did not finish using this product and I tossed it out, it did not absorb into my skin as it just sat on the surface. I did give it at least a month or two to see if my skin was just getting used to the ingredients but my skin remained broken out which was upsetting because I had high hopes for this. It may be good for some people but it is not for me. It has a very gooey and slimy texture, which is what most snail mucin is. But please don't believe the hype of what you see on social media, especially on TikTok.
