I don't understand... What advantage is there in me installing this?

The base system gives you the flexibility to install virtually any scope on your rifle. The pre drilled scope mounting holes will not accommodate a scope with a shorter body. It also gives you more flexibility in scope location on the gun.

Is this the right mount for my Savage model 93 bolt action?

Haven't tried them on a savage 93 so I can't definitively say it won't work but i doubt it will work. This product is designed specifically for the axis. The 93 may not have the holes drilled in the receiver in the exact same spots as the axis.
