Full of great ideas and helpful information
We've lived in our house for 14 years now, and pretty much used the available yard space in our suburban lot backyard up! Where to put new plants, the veg garden, the squash and melons that send out runners and eat the yard? We tried raspberries and ended up tearing them out, blackberries too. If only I had started with Vertical Vegetable and fruit before trying to grow those plants. This book offers great information on various techniques to grow up instead of out. Ideas for trellises, teepees, fencing, and how to build them makes this book worthwhile on its own, but then the author gives varieties of plants to grow, where to grow them, zone info, how to train them, etc. We are going to try raspberries again, blackberries, grapes (did you know for best grape production don't improve the ground too much with compost or the rich soil will encourage the grapes to grow more leaves and vine instead of fruit? Me either!), melons, and squash, I can't wait! This book makes me and Jim want to go plant something, now!

Helpful, but missing
Lots of good helpful information about specific plants. Wish it had more plans on DIY vertical supports. Just one or two.

it does a nice job of treating its subject
This book has a fairly narrow reach, just as implied by its title. Within that limited venue, it does a nice job of treating its subject. Yes, you can find similar information in other books today, but if you have not acquired them in your library, this book should be a worthwhile addition to your personal collection. In my reading, I almost without exception find something new and worthwhile ... this book is not an exception. Its content is authentic and I found no serious errors ... so, of the subject implied by its title fits your need, I think you will find it a worthwhile addition to your personal library. On the other hand, if you have 30 years of gardening experience, well, let the book's description be your guide!

Pretty simplistic
It has some decent basic gardening information and a few idea of things to build to have a more vertical garden but really not much that isn't in every other basic gardening book. Unless you are a real beginner gardener you could probably figure out the few 'vertical' bits yourself.

New Gardening Horizons
Nice little book with a lot of ideas for those that are space impaired in their gardening areas.Plan on using several of these ideas in our small backyard garden next year.

A boon for a vertical garden in an aged care facility
Brilliant! Bought Vertical Vegetables & Fruit Growing Techniques to enable me to start a garden here where I live in an aged care facility. Most of the residents will be able to help out with this project, including those in wheelchairs, who can "do their bit" on waist level plantings. We are expecting to get a lot of enjoyment out of this project.Everybody involved will be able to enjoy the fresh air here in the tropics, while having fun and being productive. We will not be starting this project for a couple of months, as the weather is way too hot & humid right now.

Good "how to" book for home gardening.
I really found this book to be helpful in setting up my areas at home for vertical gardening. This book explains not only why this type of gardening is good for small areas but for growing many different types of vegetables and fruits without breaking your back trying to put in large gardens that are back breaking work.It is easier to maintain vertically grown vegetables and fruits than in traditional gardens. This book helps with understanding why this true. I would recommend this book for any home gardener as an alternative style for growing plants at home.

A Unique Book
A unique book, but of more use to US readers although some of the ideas could be used or adapted for the UK.

Great book. Packed with information
I love all of the ideas for vertical gardening - can't wait to try them out. As a bonus there is lots of info on growing various kinds of garden veg and fruit. This is a great reference to add to your homesteading or garden library.

Great ideas!
If you are not a designer you will like interesting ideas included. I was looking for books like this one and there are not many of them on this particular subject which is vertical gardening. I am very happy with the book.
