Epic: In Search of the Soul of Sport and Why It Matters

Brilliant
Simon Barnes was the greatest sportswriter the Times ever had. Whatever they were paying him was not enough and yet they thought it was too much. Barnes is a priceless gift and through his books, he is still giving us his unique take on the soul and meaning of sport. I would give this book six stars out of five.

SPORTS WRITING AT ITS BEST
This was a very good read. Simon Barnes manages to create all the great atmospheres that have occurred over the last twenty years. There is a certain intellectualism to much of his writing, and you have to be quite well read to understand some of the references to literature. It reminds me of the two reports of a rugby match in Michael Green's book 'The Art Of Coarse Rugby. Simon Barnes's demise seems somewhat sad, but he certainly took sports writing on to another plain

Fascinating detail and comments. Cannot understand how the Times made him redundant

stick to bad birdwatching Simon
Disappointing ramble through the history of sport,a hotch pot of stories, leaving you to sort out moral issues. Better than watching grass grow though. Stick to your brilliant past Simon and give us more of country issues
