The Dungeon Monster Scenes Diorama Model Kit

Way back in the early 70's, model kit company Aurora released a collection called Monster Scenes, figures and settings model builders could mix and match to create their own gothic horror scenes. Problem was, the kits came under fire for various reasons; content, scantily clad women, being rated 'X for excitement', and the fact family friendly Nabisco had bought out Aurora (for reasons that still elude me). This resulted in three of the next wave of kits being only available in Canada, and the other two, The Dungeon and Animal Pit being totally scrapped even though they were in production. Flash forward to our current times. Dencom gets the rights to Monster Scenes and with the help of Moebius models, starts putting them out again, with no controversy at all. Dencom itself manages to release the long lost Dungeon. History lesson aside, The Dungeon was meant to be one of the centerpieces of the Monster Scenes line. Molded in dark grey, it includes a floor, back wall, pillar, beams, a spiked casket, manacle chain, and rats. It's the perfect backdrop, whether you want to make a dungeon or a gothic lab, using the other Monster Scenes kits, or other kits or action figures of the same scale. The kit is designed to hook with The Animal Pit (available separate) for one giant monster playground. The kit snaps together, though you may want to glue key parts, with a bit of paint and dry-brushing looks pretty good. Great to finally see this kit, and thanks to Dencom for their effort.

Great Kit!Pros:Precision molded parts, well designed model.Fun to build.Easy to paint.Requires just enough skill to make it interesting to assemble.Cons:Expensive! What happened to the affordable model kit?Some glitches in the fit of some parts, but easily corrected if you are an experienced sculptor/modeler.Conclusion:Great reproduction of a classic model.

RATES THE FIVE STARS FOR FINALLY BEING RELEASED, AND A BIT BETTER IN THE ASSEMBLY DEPARTMENT THAN "THE ANIMAL PIT". ALSO IT MAKES A GREAT ADDITION TO THE ENTIRE GROUP OF MONSTER SCENES KITS. WOULD HAVE BEEN NICE FOR A MODULAR FLOOR FOR CONTINUITY OF THE SERIES...MAYBE AFTER THE "HERO"?
