Maybe it's the filter? Maybe it's my machine?
I honestly don't know if these coffee filters make a difference with my Capresso machine. My home gets pretty hard tap water, so I filter my drinking water anyway and then I use that filtered water with my Capresso coffee machine that uses this filter. But, I get a lot of compliments from guests that our coffee consistently tastes good. I've served guests coffee using a wide range of whole beans from the supermarket and from fancy, local roasters and we still get compliments, so I know it's not the particularly beans.Maybe my coffee tastes good because my Capresso machine is a combination burr grinder + coffee maker, so I'm always using freshly ground beans. Maybe these filters really do improve the quality of my once filtered tap water.

capresso again
my first capresso coffee maker is 10 years old and still works however the LEDs were going out making it guess work to change the strength or program the time. so I set out to find a replacement with the requirement of having a built in grinder and 10-12 cups. I tried 3 popular brands including in the $200 range to find out they needed cleaning of the ground coffee channel daily (my first and current capressos dont require cleaning the channnel) and they could not handle any oily beans like all the starbucks coffee.. kinda dumb to have a coffee maker that cant take the most popular beans. I was told to dry out the beans overnight on a papertowel and not use dark oily beans. not happening as they are the best beans in my opinion. the new version by capresso is more compact and takes up less space than the older model. I am very happy with the current model after finally finding one on amazon and returning the other models i tried. one caveat i have added is the use of a paper filter inside the gold filter, why??? i can clean out the old grinds quickly and neatly without washing a lot of grinds down the drain.... try it you'll like it! makes a great cup of java! the carbon filters help keep the taste great although i happen to have great water so i change them infrequently.

Anyone's Guess
How does one review a water filter? I made several pots of coffee in my new coffee maker w/o the filter. They tasted very good. Next I inserted the filter and made more coffee. I could not detect any difference in taste. It still had the same good taste. So, either my taste buds are jaded or my unfiltered water is just as good as the filtered version or the filter is not designed to alter taste. Based on my experience the only thing I can review is the filter setup. The filter holder slides easily out of the slot in the bottom of the water compartment. The filter is simply placed into the holder which, in turn, is effortlessly inserted back into the water compartment. Not having anything else to go by I feel obligated to rate the filter a 5 due to its ease of use. However, because I have been making coffee w/o a filter for my entire adult life I will continue to do so in the future and forego the purchase of additional overpriced filters and instead buy that Lamborghini I always wanted.

Total package for great coffee!
This is a great coffeemaker! We have had Bunn coffeemakers for years, but the quality had gone down, so we gave this one a try per a recommendation by a family member. It is worth every penny. It takes longer to brew than a Bunn, but that's no problem since we program it to brew every morning. The grinder is loud, but the blades are super sharp and of good quality. It is HOT---unlike most coffeemakers. I like the fact that there are no filters to buy and it has a water filter so we can use tap water. We are very very pleased!
