Book was delivered to me on 6/3/2022, day of its release. I traveled to SA on 6/12/2022 to 6/28/2022 - Cape Town, Garden Route, Kruger, Jo'burg. I am (was) a big fan of Lonely Planet books, as I have about 15 on my bookshelf and have found their books helpful in my travels to 40+ countries. I also understand things are rapidly changing in today's environment.I cannot recall a single time the book was accurate on prices. And I'm not talking about a few Rand. For instance, on the Blyde Canyon Tour the book posted prices for around R10/5 adult/child for God's Window. We're a family of 5 (2 adults, 3 kids). The real June 2022 price ended up costing around R170 for the family.I found Wikitravel's page on Kruger to be more helpful than this updated book. First of all, the book recommends you stay in the park or at 5 star luxury resorts. Would I love to stay Singita or &beyond? Absolutely. Do I have the money for a family of 5? Absolutely not. Due to SANparks strict limits on occupants, we would have had to reserve a place for like 8+ people. The only other real alternative the book refers people to are backpack hostels. The book also states that ALL children travelling to South Africa need to show a birth certificate. As of 2019, this is not true. There are many exemptions. The main one that is applicable to a lot of travelers is only a valid passport is needed if you enter on a foreign exempt visa. The list could go on and on. I was extremely dissatisfied with this book and I am returning it.
