Wing Chun Martial Arts: Principles & Techniques

A great summary of the Yip Man family Wing Chun system
I really like this book, it has alot of information and pictures and stories. I think this book is best for people studying wing chun. It has pictures of the main postures/techniques of the three hand forms but you couldnt learn the forms by reading this book. There is alot of information and pictures of chi sao. there are no pictures of applications for the first 2 forms but there alot for the third form 'Bui Tze'. Over all its a great book i would def. recomend it to any wing chun practitioner it might be alittle to much for someone whos just starting out.

Includes moves, forms, and philosophy
This book has a running narrative and interview commentary from Yip Chun, which is interesting if you want to understand the theory behind it. The narrative/commentary runs parallel to the kata/form instructions in many places, with pictures of the moves. This is probably more of a theoretical introduction with basic moves. Probably a good place to start understanding. There is definitely some of that "I'm a zen master who makes clever metaphors you need to think about, but I won't totally explain" stuff.

Great read.
Great read...good insights.....get a good Sifu...and use this to help you understand what he is trying to teach you if its not sinking in....you can't learn Wing Chun from a book...but you can learn to improve what you have been taught...lm lucky my Sifu (GM Steve Lee Swift) studied under both of Ip Man's sons and a few other renowned Grand Masters......so surprises in the book....and consistent with what I have been taught....

It's not a "How-To" book.
It's pretty clear that Yip Chun realizes that you can't learn Wing Chun, or any other martial art, from a book. Therefore he doesn't try to teach you Wing Chun from a book. He does briefly go over the three basic hand forms and chi-sau but only enough so that he can comment on them and remark on how they relate to Wing Chun's big picture. This book is mostly his philosophy on Wing Chun and how it can help improve your life. Turns out, even the "street fighting" art has uses beyond fighting. Yip Chun discusses how WC is good for both physical and emotional health and how it relates to Confucianism much like Tai Chi relates to Taoism and the Shaolin arts to Buddhism. He even includes a translation of Confucius' Doctrine of the mean because he feels studying it will make one a complete Wing Chun practitioner. You won't learn how to fight by reading this book, but you shouldn't be trying to do that anyway. Go find a good teacher and train hard. If you're patient enough to take the time and effort though this book will help you make the most of your Wing Chun.

It is a good read but if you are looking to learn Wing ...
It doesn't go through the forms. Any of them.. Wing Chun Kung Fu by Ip Chun and Michael Tse goes through Siu Lim Tao step by step and provides most of the information in this book. It is a good read but if you are looking to learn Wing Chun you should get the fore mentioned book, which is sold right here on Amazon.

It Is a Great Reference Book for Practitioners of Wing Chun
Great book for any martial artist to add to their collection. "Absorb what is useful, discard what is not, add what is uniquely your own."

Good Wing Chun book
Very informative book, Grandmaster Yip Chun does a great job explaining the techniques in this book, I recommend it for the beginner and as a refresher for the advanced practitioner.

Buon libro in inglese
Trovo il libro interessante, anche solo per il fatto che Ip Chun figlio di Ip Man ne è co-autore.Devo studiarlo a fondo ma penso che mi tornerà molto ma molto utile. Spedizione veloce. Consigliato
