I bought this egg cracker out of curiosity since it was inexpensive. The device is most excellent as it is simple and just works. Following the recommendation of several reviewers here, I have had great success by holding the egg in my palm with my finger tips keeping the device in contact with the egg. Pulling the knob up about 20 mm (3/4 in) and letting go produces the crack. Do this twice without moving the device to propagate the crack all around the egg. Carefully remove the device and gently lift the top of the egg. I am able to create a clean cut in the egg shell most of the time this way.

Works perfectly. Costco Large and XLarge eggs are both great.
