I know other Remo Buffalo drums can be painted does this have the same type of material so I can paint a design on it? I have a beautuful design that would look great on the black and go wonderful with a bass sound. Thank you

I asked this question myself -- and was told by West Music's Alex Adams (one of the folks who made the YouTube video on Remo drums) that the skin of the Buffalo drum is not absorptive, it's a bit like naugahyde vinyl. That quality plus being constantly beat means that it would be very difficult for any paint to last. I did not ask about painting the sides, however, and they are covered with a fairly rough burlap feeling material. That may have potential. . . .

What is your experience with the mallet that comes with this drum? Any advice on choosing an alternative?

Sometimes I can hit pretty hard and the mallet that comes with this drum would scratch the drum face. I highly recommend throwing away the included mallet and invest in a felt or yarn mallet around $25-30 (comes in pack of 2). You will get a better quality tone and resonance.

What kind of bag is appropriate for this Drum?

Depending on where you're going with it and who is handling it, a regular drum bag is good enough for you if you have care of the drum ..

is it possible to play this as a frame drum as well as with the beater?

It is possible to play it as a frame drum but due to the thickness and fabric style head it doesn't have the sensitivity you find on a thin film frame drum.
