Understanding Digital Photography: Techniques for Getting Great Pictures Review: Finally, A Great Digital Photography Book - I have read dozens of photography books, some that included digital some that didn't, but I have never read a book as insightful as this on the topic. Even the section on Photoshop use made more sense than in any other books, revealing things like multiple exposure, compositions, and ND filter mimicking in an easy to understand way with illustrations to reinforce the concepts. He is really able to explain many of the concepts that I have struggled with when reading in other books in logical ways that I could apply. Everything from lens selection to final processing is covered in just enough detail to get you there without overly drawn out explanations to bore you with. Even things I thought I understood, like aperture and shutter speed selection, were explained in such a way as to reinforce what I knew and add to my knowledge without seeming redundant. I wish I would have found this book a long time ago, it has helped me grow in ways that I have not even realized yet. If you are serious about learning digital photography and want an easy to read, comprehensive guide, this is one of the finest books available on this topic. Review: Awesome fundamental techniques - Bryan has done the work to break down each digital process into easily digestible parts, so that you don't get overwhelmed by all the things you need to learn. I appreciate that he gives before and after photo comparisons; you see what the typical photo decision would be, then you get to see what happens when you make slight adjustments, get closer, get lower, etc. Just makes for better photography and you get to build a great portfolio in the learning process.

Awesome fundamental techniques
Bryan has done the work to break down each digital process into easily digestible parts, so that you don't get overwhelmed by all the things you need to learn. Where have you gone, Kodak!
Just an absolutely solid look at digital photography. I used to think that film still held an edge over digital, but taken all-in-all I would have to say it doesn't anymore. Still, digital is a bit different from film. For me, film is a dying art, like working for a newspaper.,

Superb & Revealing: Valuable and nicely put - highly recommended
I have bought all Bryan Peterson books, and am somehow sad there is no more to read, so much it's INVITING & USEFUL. As not to remain on my hunger, i have already booked his Sept 06 book "Beyond Portraiture: Creative People Photography". I find the content really revealing and the way Bryan puts it makes it so simple yet enticing to understand. Having read all his books and got used to one style of terminology ... i found my photography skills improving S T E A D I L Y..... towards getting it right in the view finder - as he says.

Ignore the digital techie parts
I purchased this book when I got my first camera and knew nothing about photography but quite a bit about the physics of light and computers. This book helped me take some great shots because it does a great job of explaining, in simple to understand terms, photography basics and provides a plethora of pictures to illustrate the concepts. If you are a rank beginner, this book will walk you through aperture, f stops, the basics of exposure and basic composition to produce good photos and I highly recommend it for that purpose. The technical aspects of the book -- both digital camera components and computer formats -- range from dumbed down to the point of being overstated to plainly wrong, an issue covered in several other reviews. However, they do give enough of an introduction to allow one to understand better, more accurate and more detailed discussions of technical components. If you know nothing about the "digital" (as opposed to film) side of cameras and formats, it serves as a readable introduction to the meaning of the terms. Be aware that most of the information beyond what the terms mean is wrong. If you are anything more than a rank beginner I suggest you skip this book. If you are just starting out and more than a little intimidated by the seemingly complex world of "taking a good picture" then you will the book of value.

A well-illustrated introductory text
This book provides a great introduction to digital photography. It is illustrated with outstanding images taken by the author. Even if you know a fair amount about digital photography, you will learn new things from this book. I know I did.

Bryan Peterson is a really talented and knowledgeable photographer and a very easy to read author. His vibrant style of photography can be seen right through this book. The book itself is aimed at the users of Digital SLR cameras rather than compacts, and will appeal to the beginner and intermediate amateur who wants to start moving onto more advanced photography. The book does a very good job of explaining all the important techniques in an easy to understand style. It also covers very basic Photoshop CS techniques. I stress the "Very basic" as Peterson is first and foremost a photographer, and prefers to get his images right in camera! He does discuss the merits of RAW and JPEG, and his theories on white balance, which make interesting reading. Highly reccomended

Devi sapere l'inglese e poi ti diverti con Bryan. Molto utile e non semplicemente una fredda sequenza di tecniche.io ho tutti i suoi libri. Questo un po' ripete parti di altri suoi libri ma e' sempre un gran bel libro

Without producing a ponderous 'tome,' writer Bryan Peterson explains the major aspects of digital photography, in a very easily understood book, aimed at the layperson, or amateur to serious photographer. For someone like myself who doesn't really need to have a comprehensive knowledge of the technical aspects of ISO or White Balance, (much as one doesn't need to know how a cellphone works, as long as it just does,) this book fits the bill admirably. Bryan tells you in easy to understand language what these items, and others do, why they are needed, and more to the point why, and how you would want to use them to improve your digital photography experience. The whole basic principles of photography are treated in similar manner, together with a quite comprehensive and adequate coverage of lighting, and composition etc. making this book a 'must have' in the photographers library.
