Q: does the pad slip off the handle when applying lotion?

It was the first thing I used it for. No, the handle does not come off. Just keep the lotion on the pad not on the handle

Q: Are the pads washable and reusable?

I use mine for lotion application, and wipe the remainder off each time. Have not needed to wash as of yet.

Q: Can you buy the lotion applicators separate

I'm not sure, I got this for my neighbor. It came with replacements so maybe she used one for lotion and one for antibiotic creme. I don't think you can purchase the replacement pads separately.

Q: Looking for sponges that grip not insert

I have not ever found anything for that purpose set out
