Sooooooo nice - this whole mineral line!
I am loving this Daniel Smith 'fine' line of genuine mineral colors. I learned about it from sis in law who uses the oil paints. They really have a magical quality (which is why I bought them tbh.. for magick art). Vivid colors and MANY levels of sheerness and opacity with water - you can also use them on a slightly damp brush out of the tube as a gouache and they sit like matte jewels on thick paper. This garnet is a warmer tone than I expected - all the mineral ones have a little surprise to them but all are great. Be aware that they are really packed into those tubes and want to pop out all at once.. just keep a palette or container nearby to make dots and you can use them to watercolor later. Trying to have a little self control so I don't go broke collecting these! But they are long lasting.

Daniel Smith Artist Watercolor paints are awesome
Lauren McCraken, an internationally famous watercolor artist, uses Daniel Smith Artist quality watercolor paints, so that’s what I buy now. The quality is excellent! He collaborated with Daniel Smith for them to make his famous black. He taught a us how to mix it in his workshop, but it takes a lot of tweaking to get it right. Since I’m lazy I was really excited when his “McCraken black” was finally produced. I bought it, along with lots of other Daniel Smith watercolor paints. Although this review is attached to the Indigo color, all of Daniel Smith artist quality watercolor paints are excellent.

Wonderful mixed color for shadows, shading and more
Moonglow is a granulating pigment, which creates beautiful, multi-colored effects when allowed to pool and settle on the page. It’s what I’d call a neutral, somewhat-greyed purple. Overall, it’s on the warmer side, but has some nice cooler shadows, too. Amongst other things, I’ve found it works well for shading everything from tree trunks, to snowbanks, to skin. It has a permanent place in my travel palettes, as well as in my studio. When I first started learning about watercolors, my instructors always emphasized using single-pigment colors to keep my options open in terms of mixing. But there’s something wonderful about the convenience of a perfectly blended color like Moonglow.

Wide range of color
This color is very rich. It appears as green in the pan. It has a wide range of color depending on the amount of water used. I began using it as soon as I got it. I have used it on buildings and to add brightness in foliage.

Beautiful green with a little shimmer.
What can I say, it’s Daniel Smith. Cannot go wrong. Used along with other greens in florals, landscapes and urban paintings. Could use with any painting. I think next I will incorporate it in a seascape
