Hilda and the Bird Parade: Hilda Book 3 (Hildafolk)

Netflix logo on front. Not in picture. Annoyed.
Specifically ordered this one because - unlike some others listed - it supposedly *didn't* have the ad on the front cover, according to the photo.Arrived and it's there. You can't remove it. Update the photo, y'all.Other than that, it'd be 5 stars. Book is great, print and paper quality is exceptional, but we are big into avoiding commercial branding for our kid. What the heck, Netflix. Why not just make a sticker?

depth of story makes for magical reading and reading again
Our family loves the Hilda books. This newest adventure by author and illustrator Luke Pearson features Hilda in the big city, far away from the mountains she loves and her magical neighbors and friends: elves, trolls, giants and Log Man, to name a few. At least she has Twig, the antlered fox who is her best buddy. Hilda and her mom have moved to the big city and Hilda is keen to explore it as fully and freely as she did her mountain home. Her mother is understandably cautious, and is fearful for Hilda to go off alone. The adventure starts in earnest when Hilda finally does find herself lost in the city with a new bird companion who has a mystery and magical story of his own to tell. Perhaps there is more magic and mystery in the city then we think! It is a great book and a wonderful read for all ages(our household is ages 3 - 48) which grows in meaning with each reading.

Quandaries and challenges that imagines children as real moral beings
My nearly-5-year-old loves Hilda (rightly so). We loved the introductory book, but found Midnight Giant a step down; the situation was too abstract for my daughter to fully grok.Bird Parade is a return to form and then some, it puts Hilda in a challenging new situation and doesn't flinch from depicting the real issues that come with being an outsider, or having moral intuitions that are not shared by peers.Engaging, with true tension, true surprise, and true beauty -- can't speak highly enough of this series and this volume in specific. Can't wait, either, for the next volume!

My girls love Hilda.
I love this series and so do my kids. They are fun and quirky and they love the world that has been created for Hilda. If you like the Studio Ghibli production this is a pretty good comic version of that kind of fantasy world.

... bought this for my niece and we had a good time reading it together
I bought this for my niece and we had a good time reading it together. She would probably appreciate it more if her family didn't spoil her so much. I also enjoyed the book, I liked the art and the story very much. It seems like this book was written for parents who wish they had books like this when they were children.

Bought for my 6 year old who is an avid reader. He’ll sit and read this over the space if an hour. Giving it 5 stars from him because he enjoyed it and 5 stars from me for the hour’s peace I got.

Very emotional book this one! Hilda and her mother ...
Very emotional book this one! Hilda and her mother move the Trollberg. Hilda has to get used to children with different attitudes to her. Sometimes in sharp contrast to her own. Hilda and her mother have to learn to bond in the city with it, and themselves. Hilda makes some very interesting friends along the way.
