Excellent Basic Sonar, fair price
This sonar is exactly as described and functions perfectly - NO GPS and NO SPEED SENSOR. I can see how people assume that it has these features by looking at the pics (based on some of the reviews)... but the description is accurate. I did not expect GPS or Speed features with this unit because I read the item description. The stock image in the Amazon listing AND on Humminbird's site shows Speed and GPS in the image... that is an option for this unit, and not included. For another $60 or so you could purchase the same Humminbird Helix head unit (different transducer) WITH those features if that's what ya need. They use the same product image for both units. If you want Speed and GPS features this is not the unit for you. It's for me, all mine. All that aside - this is a fantastic upgrade from my last Humminbird. The menu is super easy to navigate without a lot of complicated settings. The instruction booklet could be a little better I guess since it crosses over to other models and isn't 100% specific to this model but overall very good. The screen size and clarity is perfect for my needs. The color display options are nice. The view options are nice. It's fast and accurate. For the price, this sonar delivers. Very happy with this purchase. If you don't need Speed and GPS, this is sonar most worthy of consideration.

A Helix 5 for my trolling motor
I have a Helix 9 on my boat with a transom-mount transducer. I wanted something to view depth and fish while fishing from the seat at the front of the boat. I did not need all of the bells and whistles of my Helix 9, so I found this Helix 5.It does the trick. With an adapter cable, it works with my Minn Kota built-in transducer and gives me a view below the front of the boat. One wonderful feature is that, though smaller in size, it works virtually the same as the Helix 9, just without the GPS and down imaging.

Good unit
Was looking for a fish finder that could also give me water temp. Sophisticated years ago, but now is a basic unit! The install was fairly simple and the unit works great. The unit is a little small (but has a decent size screen), and the winshield blocks the view, so I will have to get something to raise the unit up. Thinking of a RAM mount which will allow me to position it for just me in the boat, or with a rider, or to be able to see it from the front of the boat.

Good option for a small price
I purchased the Helix 5 to use in the back of my boat where I sit to operate my trolling motor while fishing for walleyes. Up front, on the dashboard, I have a Humminbird 898, but it's difficult for me to continually crank my head around to view that forward 898, so I do depend on the rear locator to keep me on depth as I troll along. Considering the small price I paid for this Helix 5, I didn't expect more than just a depth finder when I purchased and mounted the device, but I was surprised at the sensitivity this little unit produced. From the very first time I used it, I noticed that it actually marked walleyes that were hanging very closely to the bottom, and it did so better than the larger, more expensive 898 that I have mounted on the dash in front. I actually spent time noting that there were times when the Helix 5 marked walleyes close to the bottom when the 898 showed nothing.I know there are newer products available that can do much much more than the Helix 5 or the 898, but if you are looking for a basic locator that you can purchase at a reasonable price and still get good results for locating fish hanging close to the bottom of the lake, then I think the Helix 5 offers an inexpensive option that can be pretty effective.

Works
I like Hummingbird over others. Im replacing a Laurens because i didn't like the scream set up and every time i turned it on i had to go through some stupid steps to set it up. This is more my style. Easy and it actually remembers my previous settings. Wow. Really? Yes.IT kinda thinks like i do. Don't start from scratch every day.Also. Unless you have never worked on a boat before (if never, get some help) but otherwise it's a fast easy setup. So easy. And screan display is perfect. Intuitive functioning. And it looks great.
