Samsung 980 PRO SSD with Heatsink 1TB PCIe Gen 4 NVMe M.2 Internal Solid State Hard Drive, Heat Control, Max Speed, PS5 Compatible, MZ-V8P1T0CW

I needed extra storage for my PS5 and not being very IT savvy i googled a lot and checked out reviews. I shop quite often on Amazon and searched here. Reviews were good so i picked one up during a special. Fitted myself and have had no issues at all. Most of my games are stored on this rather than the PS5 internal storage. No lag whatsoever. Have had no issues at all. Highly recommend. Only issue i had was the delivery company couldn’t find my address which was strange because i often have items delivered. Had to order another and Amazon was fantastic. They have me a voucher to cover the cost of another and at the special price i paid even though that special was finished. Other than the first up delivery Amazon was great and the product is great.

Works great, but it wasn't straightforward at first. My motherboard has the right shape of physical slot for this, but only supports "Gen 2" rather than Gen 3 or Gen 4 (the latter of which, this drive is.) I knew this going in, but I had read that NVMe is a backward compatible spec, so it should work (although be limited to Gen 2 speeds). I am using this as a 2nd drive (not my OS / boot drive).I had the latest BIOS (with NVMe updates) for my Z97 ASROCK motherboard. I run Window 10 with latest updates.When I installed this drive and booted into the BIOS, one area (advanced NVMe settings) recognized it's presence. Another area (Advanced Storage settings) did not find it. So I was not sure whether I was good to go.Within Windows, I ran Samsung's "Magician" software and it did not find the drive. So I thought I was defeated, but then I called Samsung memory support. They had me go into Windows "Disk Management", which did see it. It was showing "uninitialized" so we right clicked and initialized it. Then it showed "unallocated" so we right clicked and formatted it as one huge partition. I guess I should have known to try those things myself, but with 2 other views not finding it, I thought it would not be so simple.All is working now! In the next few years I expect to upgrade my whole system to something that directly supports Gen 4, and I should be able to move this drive over and get full speed out of it. But as of now, even at Gen 2 speeds, this is so much faster than my old mechanical HDD! I highly recommend it.And I've read that the "PRO" line of Samsung's SDD drive uses better, longer lasting data storage methods that their other lines, like "EVO".I'm happy with the hardware and very happy with Samsung's free help!

This was my first time ordering and buying any type of product online through Amazons website and the process was very easy and simple to do. Plus I enjoyed the experience searching for the specific product I needed in order to increase my overall storage space capacity in my Sony Playstation 5. I was able to order it easily as well as received my Samsung M.2 Internal SSD earlier than expected right at my front door of my home. It was sealed and in the bag securely and safely. Then the process of installing it was even easier and simpler to do with the guide on how to install this electronic device in my PS5 although I watched some YouTube videos on the way exactly to install my Samsung Solid State Drive which only took a couple of minutes to complete and finish. Then I was able to program and format it on my PS5 drive easily without any problems or issues. Overall, the experience and process was very effective and smooth. I definitely got my moneys worth and very high value in total! If anyone needs an SSD for their PS5 console, I highly recommend this one to be exact. The Samsung 980 Pro with heatsink and 2 TB of storage space as it runs properly and efficiently in order to increase their storage space and provide more functionality overall as well in terms of speed with less loading times on screen during gameplay for any videogame. It is an awesome product and worth the price I paid for it on Amazon Prime Day sale which was $156.79 exactly including shipping costs and other expenses to get it delivered from the US to Canada as it was cheaper and lower price!

So I ordered this as I just bought a ps5. Almost bought the 2TB WD at best buy when picking up my PS5, But checked amazon saw this was like 20 dollars cheaper. That was my first mistake. I order it, it saying it will arrive even the same day 5-10PM. Perfect! I Can use it the same day I bought my ps5. Nope it gets lost in the mail. Customer service sents a replacement, it arrives and I excited. I bought ps plus extra, so I have a huge options of game to download and ps5 comes with lime 600-660GB of usable on board storage, so an m.2 upgrade is almost a necessity.I open the bag, so excited to install the drive. AND ITS A 970 EVO. You can see In the picture it says 2TB 980 pro with heat sink for ps5, etc. obviously if you been around computers for a bit you know the 970 evo plus was a top of the line drive, in 2018-2019. And ps5 will not work with gen 3 drives period. It runs a simple check if it’s gen 4 and if not it won’t work. I was furious. They obviously applied this label to the wrong item by someone who has no clue what an nvme 2280 m.2 drive is in the first place.That’s why I rated 3 stars as its not the seller fault i guess, and dont want to affect the rating too much for what might be amazon’s mistake. But amazon wanted to send me a third replacement! I said NO I want my money back! Also was able to score an XPG 4TB drive with heatsink plenty fast for ps5 (7200 MB/s read 6800 MB/s write, with dram cache and heatsink for ps5) for 199! So id recommend going with something other than Samsung or Western Digital for your ps5 expansion. Nand flash is a commodity. Just find out what controller it is using (Phison E18 is the top of Line gen 4 currently, which the 199 4TB drive I bought has, and you should be fine. The only one making custom controllers is Samsung, and after a certain speed the PS5 can’t even take advantage of it in the first place.So just be careful ordering this drive. Its a great product I have the non heatsink version as my main drive in my gaming computer, but if you want storage in a product like ps5 where there’s already on board I/O controllers to do work and the drive itself is less important (id still recommend a dram cache as 2-4TB drive without a dram cache is going to be ULTRA budget.)If you insist on getting the brand name of Samsung ,or Western digital, or Seagate. That’s fine. Just know you are paying almost the same price as what a 4TB can be had for. Also, PLEASE double check your order, im worried they are going to say I sent the wrong item back and try to hassle me over the refund, but you can obviously see it was mislabeled and the pick and place machine took the wrong item (according to the scanner it was a 980 pro 2TB with a heatsink, but you can see from the picture it is obviously the wrong item.I thought maybe someone bought this 980 pro and returned their old 970 evo trying to scam amazon return, but as you can see this was just a straight wrong label applied and the drive was factory sealed.Anyway, other than that little adventure I am loving my PS5!

Was pretty easy to install after watching a video. Quality feels great. Its a lot smaller than i thought it would be. The heatsink is a little bulky in a good way. Havent felt my ps5 warm heat up or nothing. Im able to save all my games and stuff to the card and start up games perfectly fine. Runs quick there is no lag. Im completely satisfied. I got the 1tb one and so far its been more than enough considering i have quite a few games downloaded now.
