It will depend on whether you use the wheels. I did not use the wheels, so my gap in 6 inches.. I am not sure how much height the wheels add.

Can you hang anything on the fabric and what would maximum weight be? What would you use for hanging framed art?

It is very much a fabric, so you could pin very lightweight things to it but I don't know that it would hold framed art
