Q: Is the dial just for aesthetics/nostalgic purposes, or does the dial still function without batteries?

The dial is electronically actuated based on the digital reading. It does not function without batteries as it's not a true mechanical scale head. In fact the dial moves in increments of .5 or 1 pound (might be 1/4 or 1/2 of a kg) It's hard to nail it down but you can see it jump between the increments. It's not smooth like a mechanical scale head would be.

Q: The digital readout is telling me i weigh 1740 lbs. i checked to make sure it wasn't in kg. the dial part is correct, is there a reset?

Q: can i turn off the voice

The alarm is controlled by switch on the back. You an choose what time it goes off each day and you can shut it off completely if you don't want that function. Very simple and easy to use.

Q: What are the measurements of this scale?

at the very widest, it's 12.5 in and the length from the top of the circle is almost 16in
