Great to finally see Modern Times on CD!
Quality release of 3 Steve Khan LPs on 2 CDs. Great to finally see Modern Times on CD! I even told Steve Khan himself that I appreciated his music and this special release. Go to his website sometime and give him a holler. He is a really nice person as well as a stellar jazz guitarist. He will answer your questions quickly.

Nice remaster. This band kicks.
It's really great to see these remastered on CD. This is very heavy jazz. Anthony Jackson on bass is just badass. Steve Jordan and Manolo Badrena on drums/percussion/vocals are totally on. The studio tracks are so well-recorded, all the wood blocks and cowbells etc. are right there. Disagree with an earlier reviewer, I think 'Casa Loco' is the most well-developed of the work here.. e.g. listen to 'Some Sharks' and turn it way up LOUD.'Modern Times' is a live recording, btw. If you like this era of Steve's career, also check out 'The Suitcase', another killer 2cd live set with this lineup.

Great sound and nice liner notes
I love the BGO lable, they do reissues right, great sound, nice liner notes and a nice price for some albums that used to cost a fortune as imports. One of my favorite labels these days. I wish the majors cared about their product as BGO does. Aloha, Jerry

Steve Khan Fans Rejoice
Not familiar with BGO remasters but they sound great and the liner notes are really good. Bought this more for the Eyewitness portion of the disc but like that Modern Times and Casa Loco are with the same band. Recommend for Steve Khan fans.

"Eyewitness" is one of the 80s very finest guitar albums
"Eyewitness" is one of the finest guitar 'fusion' recordings of the 1980s, and the reason is NOT the guitar...but the unique and extrordinary rhythm section of Anthony Jackson (bass and contrabass), Steve Jordan (drums) and Manolo Badrena (percussion). There is NO other guitar record like it; in this recording, the space in the music and what they don't play are of equal importance to what they do play. Khan himself has noted that this became a very special session that was completely unrepeatable. All the tunes are improvisational sketches that are just brilliantly interpreted by the ensemble. This recording has attained legendary status and deservedly so; on this re-issue the drums and percussion have been brought up slightly and it now sounds even better and clearer than it did on LP and the original hard-to-find CD. The 2nd recording "Modern Times", live in Japan (begins with the truly awesome "Blades") also sounds more in focus and it's easier to make sense of "The Blue Shadow" as a result. Split in half so original S1 is on the 1st CD and S2 on the 2nd of this 2CD set.The 3rd album by this lineup was "Casa Loco", a studio session which has many great moments but at least one awful one IMO, which is the dreadful track "Some Sharks" with Sting-and-The Police-type vocals. Sounds very dated now, like the Simmons drums which also crop up from time to time. The rest of it just about makes up for this though - for instance there is a Steve Jordan drum solo that MUST be heard on the title track. These 3 albums represent the complete output of the lineup with Jordan and this 2CD set is possibly your last chance to get hold of any of them. Well worth it for "Eyewitness" alone.

Fantastic Value
This double CD is essential listening for any Steve Khan fan. The three albums on this double CD include the hard to find Modern Times (aka Blades) and represent excellent value. The remastering is good and the booklet reproduces the original album covers (both sides) and an informative article about the albums and music. Faultless.
