Keeps the pressure off very well
Working well, made well. Also purchase a even up for the other shoe to keep somewhat level. Awkward of course but it's stopping the bleeding from amputation.

Helped me get around following surgery
This boot helped me get around unassisted and without additional pain caused following surgery on my big toe. The strap was placed well to secure my foot without putting pressure on the injury. It took some adjustment to walk in it and my Dr. recommended walking like a duck to move more swiftly in it. While your toes are exposed it helps to avoid accidental bumping. It is awkward to walk in especially if you have no shoe or a much lower shoe on the other foot.. I found if I walked a lot in it my back, knees and ankle were sore. I only needed this for a week before (when heavier bandages came off) I felt switching to a banded style flip flop gave me added mobiliy/freedom. I do believe the elevation this boot provided during that first week of a three week recovery plan helped in reducing nflammation and throbbing pain that I could have otherwise exacerbated without it. It was comfortable for me to leave the boot on while in an elevated position. I wear a size 8 and ordered the small based on some other reviews. This small was perfect for my situation. my stubby sized big toe was just at the edge with bandages and not too far back where the band would put pressure on it. If you wear an 8.5 I would recommend the medium. Depending on your situation and bandages you may consider the medium as well for maximum comfort. This boot works both for left or right feet. I hope I don't need to use it again but happy I purchased it.

I Highly Recommend This Shoe For Broken or Sprain Toes
I broke my toe, 4th digit and sprain three other toes and managed to badly hurt my foot as well. I was referred to an Orthpaedic Surgeon. He instructed me on how to tape my broken toe to it's adjoining digits and gave me an orthopedic shoe. The sole of the shoe was a low wedge. The sole of the shoe he issued me was slippery, it's material, although hard, did not allow me to put any pressure on the toe at all. My toes hurt like heck even though the shoe was supposedly designed to alleviate pressure on the foot and toes. I could not walk in the shoe. I could not walk bare foot. I could only walk using crutches. The shoe he gave me is your standard cheaper orthopedic shoe. I had to use my crutches and hop on the uninjured foot because the shoe did not aid in taking any pressure off of my toes. Additionally, I was afraid to walk on wooden or slick floors because I would slide while wearing the shoe given to me by my Orthopaedic Surgeon. I even reinjured my toe trying to hobble up two stairs wearing the issued shoes. The stairs where wooden and the shoe's sole was made of some type of rubber that did not have much traction. I performed research to determine if I could get a better shoe on my own. I came across these shoes while searching on Google. I searched the manufacture of the shoe Darco on Amazon and found it was selling for cheaper or comparable to what I found on the manufacturer's site. I decided to order it from Amazon. I must admit that I was not in love with how the shoe looked on the manufactures site. The shoe looked just as bulky and unatrractive when I got them. I tried them on and stood up to test them and after being immobilized for nearly three weeks using crutches, I was able to walk using the shoe without crutches. The shoe is a must have if you have broken a bone in your toe or even sprain your toes. You need the extra weight of the shoe to keep your foot balanced and straight. The design allows you to put the pressure on your heels up to the arch of your foot, which allows for very little pressure on your toes. The shoe is freaking awesome! It allowed me to walk gently and slowly without having to use crutches immediately upon putting them on. I swear by these shoes for anyone with a broken or sprain toes. The look is growing on me too!

Toe saver
I have a ulcer on the bottom of my left big toe. I've had my ulcer 14 months and the healing sped up when I started using this shoe. This shoe lets my toe hang off the end with no pressure on the bottom of the toe. The shoe is lasting about 4 months of daily walking. The side lets go over time which lets my foot fall out the side. I'm on my second one. The shoe comes in around 5 sizes. There is no gender in the Darco catalog. I'm not sure why this size is called a woman's shoe in some ads. I am a 250 lb man with a size 10.5 foot. The shoe is comfortable and easy to walk in on hard surfaces. On grass, the heal drops into the soil at odd angles causing me to stumble. Going up stairs is no problem. Going down stairs is dangerous. The shoe wants to pivot forward at the leading edge of the heal which throws me forward. Keep the shoe in front of you when going down stairs and you should be OK. The shoe adjusts with velcro. The strap in back stretches out over time and becomes too long to velcro in place. So over time. the shoe loosens on my foot. There should be a longer section of mating velcro on the end of the strap (2 or 3 inches instead of just 1). If I walk by placing the heal squarely on the ground, I can manage the looseness as it ages. At first the shoe feels awkward, but after a few days you manage it easily. I've been wearing it 6 months. I can even operate the clutch in my car with it. In rainy weather, I put a plastic shopping bag over my sock and slip my foot into the shoe. My toe stays dry. The shoe's high heal moves your weight to your other, good, foot. That is causing a muscle to greatly enlarge on the bottom my good, right-side foot. That gets a little sore to walk on after a few hours, but my doctor says it will go away after I finish with the shoe. The heel does not provide much traction. Walk carefully on snow and ice. Prices vary greatly from $9 to $35. Shop around. Overall it works for me and my toe is healing much faster than other methods that I tried (sandals and lift the toe, cast over lower leg and foot, special molded boot $$$$, etc). You need to wear it anytime you are walking though.

Had operation on right foot which meant I could not weight bear on that foot for 4 weeks. Unfortunately the hospital did not have the by shoes available. Having had this surgery before I knew what I needed so ordered online. Arrived quickly and a good price. And it does the job, allowing some independence and mobility.
