works well
this trap has some serious spring power, caught 3 big rats in my house in a day and a half, theres a bridge behind my house thats being repaired and i guess with all the noise and digging the rats are goin to the houses close to the bridge but this thing has killed 2 instantly and caught 1 by the arm, i also tied twine to the trap so they don't run off, helped with the last rat, he tried to get under the couch

Great product. Simple but effective
As long as you have a place to put this where it won't harm your pet's, what a great product. I smeared the peanut butter so it couldn't grab it and run. In 1 day caught the rat I was looking for.

Mostly great but there's one problem
So these rat traps have a lot of advantages over the regular 180-degree kill-bar type. The angle of the opened 'jaw' shortens the distance and time needed for the trap to snap shut, which means higher catch rate. Plus the teeth really do grab and hold even large rats making it harder for them to get away. The semi-closed construction prevents rats from sneaking up from behind and accidentally tripping the trap without getting caught or using nearby objects to disable the threat (yes, that actually happens). Since there's no kill-bar traveling in an arch, you don't have to worry about it hitting an obstacle and getting deflected before reaching the target. It also seems to make the trap safer for birds, which usually aren't that interested when the bait is somewhat obscured. Also, the trigger mechanism usually isn't sensitive enough for an inquisitive pain-in-the-a*s wren to set it off and get itself killed. Although, sadly there have been exceptions. You can unscrew the bait tray and load it with no risk of clipping your fingers. Arming the trap is super easy, a push down & click type of deal, and emptying it does not require handling a gross, dead rat.On top of that, the large size of the trigger plate means rats may, and indeed sometimes do, get caught by a limb, simply by accidentally stepping on it rather than going for the bait. However, my issue with this trap is the relatively weak spring. The short path of the kill-bar makes it even worse as the lightweight, plastic jaw simply doesn't have enough energy/momentum for a quick, ethical kill.I often use my rat traps alongside two trail cameras to better understand the 'enemy' and learn how it all works in practice. Unfortunately, what I've seen is somewhat disturbing. Sure, most rats end up dead but some take a long time to die. The longest struggle I've recorded lasted about three hours, during which the rat, very much alive, wiggled itself out of the camera's field of view and eventually died several feet away from the trap's original position. On at least two occasions, I found a rat still alive in the trap and had to finish the job myself. Not sure how long they'd been struggling before I showed up because there was no camera to record it at the time.To people asking about this trap ability to catch and kill squirrels... It might catch and eventually kill a small species but an Eastern gray squirrel that happened to wander too close to my trap, got captured by one of my trail cams having been whacked right on the noggin, doing a double backflip, shaking the trap off midair and running away as if nothing ever happened.I think a more powerful spring would really help and make this a nearly perfect rat trap.

Aš šŖ¤ that works!
I have tried so many different traps, this is a good trap. If you are just starting this journey please do not use rat poison. What that does is dehydrate the rat and takes a long time to work and while they are dying they will travel in search of water into other peopleās yards that has pets. You will put others animals at risk in your neighborhood. The old fashion wood traps are hard to set and pain in the butt to remove the rat. The tunnel traps are ok, I think they are better for smaller rodents or toads. Yes the toads think itās a little home and will crawl in them. If you have dogs you know bufa toads can kill your pup. I am located in South Florida where I get both rats and toads so I use the combination of the tunnel traps and this trap I am now reviewing. I get more rats with this trap. The jaws are very powerful and itās easy to safely discard the rat without having to touch it. Cleaning the trap is a breeze and I love the bait station is removable to refill.Tips: place traps mouth against where they will run, like against a fence or wall. Check bait often and change after a day or 2x. If you donāt catch one in a few days, move the trap to another location. Keep traps away from access from bigger animals like your dog or neighborhood cat. If you have cameras, put the camera on them so you can monitor.Pros: This trap is not easily triggered so your random lizard will not set it offCons: not good for mice, they are too small to trigger the his trap.
