If you are not running stock exhaust, you will need a tune!!! Put this on my 2015 Indian Chief Vintage that is running Vance & Hines Slip on Pipes. I noticed the bike was running a bit hot, but didn't think anything of it. After a day of riding, I noticed discoloration my exhaust pipes and chrome pipe covers. Confirming above intended temperatures. I believe the air filter, paired with the aftermarket slip-ons has caused a lean condition in the motor which could lead to engine damage if it is bad enough. Upon a few online searches (Indian Forums and Reddit), I have confirmed that most of the community states that you must retune the bike if using a high flow or aftermarket air cleaner. To meet stock EPA requirements, the bike runs lean. Adding a free flowing air cleaner and exhaust exacerbates this issue to unsafe levels. I have had to put my stock air cleaner back in and hope that I haven't caused any permanent damage to my bike. I have only removed one star since the air filter seems pretty great, I just wish it had a warning about potential tuning issues. Since I consider this the fault of my ignorance, I will not remove more stars. I have also had an issue with fitting it in the stock intake however. I had to find longer bolts and wasn't able to secure the intake cover completely, due to it being taller than stock.

I have a Roadmaster with a bone stock engine. No mods at all, and I've been riding it that way for 10,000 miles. I put a K&N filter in it - no other changes - and I have to say it's one of the best vehicle modifications I've ever done. The engine has more grunt when you're on the gas, the exhaust got a bit more grumble to it - I love how it sounds - and when you're not on the gas as much the mpg has improved by 3-4 mpg. My 90 mile commute used to produce about 42 mpg. Now it's about 45. It's a pretty fast route; on slower roads, I'm getting over 50 mpg. It installed very easily, and I know from experience that K&N filters are well made and do a good job of protecting the engine. My other motorcycle, a sportbike, has 69,000 miles on it, and it's had a K&N in it almost from the beginning. In short, I highly recommend this filter!

I have used the K&N air filters on all of my American Cruisers in the past and as with this purchase for my Indian Chief it does exactly what it says on the box. The bike breathes and performs much better at a reasonable cost
