Fun Fabrics of the 50s

No "Modern Art' geometric fabrics...
Nice big pictures... which will probably be suitable for most people interested in fabric from the 50's. But i got this book because it actually said that it had samples of geometric designs, which is my main focus. Especially the ones that were geometric examples of Modern Art from that era! Unfortunately i was very disappointed. I think there was just ONE picture that i would say matched my criteria! Most of what they were calling 'geometric', i'd call floral! Btw, there were LOTS of florals, if that's what you're into.

Not Bad, But There are Newer and Better Books Out There
I liked this book. There are full page bleeds and chunks of fabric swatches throughout. There's not much text in the book, just page after page of color textile designs illustrating molecular inspired prints, florals, and other whimsical patterns and colors appearing in clothing and home furnishings during the 1950s. It's a good, quick reference guide.Schiffer has since come out with other textile reference books, adding a little more about the history of textile designs for this and other decades. If you need something quick and dirty, this title will do. If something more detailed is needed, check out the other textile titles instead.

Fun Fabrics of the '50s
What a disappointment! Yes, the photos are gorgeous, but there is no text. There is no source reference for the fabric shown. After studying the photos,I began to wonder if the fabrics were really from that era. They probably are, but can you prove it? Where is the documentation? How can I learn? Do I really trust a photo with no analyses. If you are a novice desiring to learn textile history, this is not the book for you. I hope someday (when I learn more) that I will get some use out of this book.Susan Edwards
