Well written and from a different angle. You have a better understanding how fragile this whole concept was and the odds these men/boys had to over come to make it work against all odds!!

This is riveting from start to finish. Terrific production values, great acting, marvelous script.

This is a comprehensive account of the role of the Allied air forces in the war against Nazi Germany in Europe. It has great depth of detail accompanied by empathetic stories of personal experiences. There is much more here than was presented in the TV series. Recommended.

This is the premier book about the 8th Army Air Corps in WW II. It is packed full of tales of heroism in an extremely hazardous environment. The air crews faced incredible losses up to 70-80% & were stated to have lost more personnel than all of the Marines fighting in the Pacific area of operations. Their efforts resulted on only in attaining air superiority in the European theater of operations but also contributed to a massive understanding & advancement in aviation & space medicine. As a retired AF flag officer & physician Iconsider this to be the foremost authority on the subject. Donald Miller, the author, has done a masterful job on this as well as his other books

This is a very detailed description of the purposes for bombing and the young and dedicated folks that carried out the missions.

Without question, this is the best book on the topic. It is easy to read and highly informative.

I bought this book as a gift for my FIL who is a lover of WW2 history, but decided to also read it myself! Narrative non- fiction is so fun! It is also being turned into a miniseries so can be watched on screen soon.

A must read for whoever is an aviation and history passionate. C’est un livre passionnant à lire, très bien écrit. Une documentation remarquable, des détails qui éclairent l’histoire exemple la personnalité , l’histoire et la formation de Doolittle. Bien sûr les combats aériens sont décrits et détaillés mais on a en plus the big picture de l’histoire des bombardements, pourquoi avec l’analyse de la doctrine, comment avec l’organisation humaine et matérielle, et surtout l’analyse critique de l’efficacité de l’action et l’analyse morale mises en face des pertes colossales rarement mentionnées dans l’histoire officielle.

This book is incredible in its breadth and depth of coverage, and left me in awe of the bravery of the bomber crews of the 100th Bomb Group. The book covers the reasoning behind the creation and build up a of an airforce force capable of unescorted precision strategic bombing in daylight, and how the theory turned to dust when the theories were put into action over Germany. There is an amazing amount of detail and first hand accounts of the Ploesti, Schweinfurt and Bremen raids, and how the luftwaffe constantly adapted their tactics to inflict horrific losses on the attackers. The bravery of the crews against seemingly unbeatable odds is incredible and shines our strongly from the narrative , but the book contains some very sobering conclusions about the selection of targets for precision daylight bombing how this was fundamentally flawed, and whether perhaps the war could have ended much earlier if a more informed strategy had been adopted based on how the German war economy actually worked. This is not a book for the squeamish. Some of the horrors about injuries sustained at 25000 feet from flack, rockets and cannon fire are vividly portrayed, and the treatment of airmen who crash landed in Switzerland certainly raised my eyebrows about the the neutrality of Swiss until it was clear that the Nazis were going to be defeated.One thing to note….. the Apple TV series in very much a condensed and simplified dramatisation of the book. The book is not a novel, it is a comprehensive history. If you are expecting this to match the content and flow of the tv series, you will be disappointed.Having said that, if you want to be slack jawed in wonder at the bravery of the aircrews of the “bloody 100th”, and understand in detail how flawed US Army Airforce strategy cost many thousands of lives needlessly, this is a tremendous book.

Grade die ersten Seiten gelesen und schon fesselt es einen.Übrigens eine gute Gelegenheit sein Englisch zu verfeinern.Man bekommt einen guten Einblick in den Bomberkrieg über Deutschland.Bin auf die nächsten Seiten gespannt bis zum Ende !

I purchased this because I saw the movie (Apple TV). Warning! I am a WWll aviation nerd! This book is so much more than the film, which I found very narrow in its focus (perhaps understandably). This is well researched, deeply moving in parts, and well worth reading if this is a subject that interests you. We should all take more interest in our history in order to understand today’s issues. Very much 5 star for me!
