No you cannot. It just a led light background, can be used for tracing.

How do you add colors to pics or texts?

This is not a digital tablet like Cintiq (by Wacom) or iPad. This is just a backlit ( actually toplit) tracing pad for traditional hand-drawn 2d animations ( like Micky mouse, tom & jerry etc) so you can't add colors and texts

What can you use to write on this board?

Hi, This device is not meant for writing on. It provides a backlit surface that you can trace a drawing on or look at old-style film negatives or slides. It is very useful for the price its sold at. PS, it is not a clear white surface; it has a sort of grid under the main layer, which is good for people who trace figures, I suppose.
